Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
Sreeja Akula is now ranked at a career high of #40 this week and for the first time we have 2 Indian women in top 40.
Today, Manika Batra lost in a very close match against world #6 Japanese in 5 games in WTT champions Intanon, South Korea. Our women players seem to be getting better and better.

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
The very unlikely hope for an Olympics medal is if one of the doubles teams goes on a tear and pulls off three big upsets in a row ... one can dream, right? Not expecting anything.

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula will be representing India at the ITTF Women's World Cup in Macao, China starting from 15th April 2024
It's a singles only competition
Sharath Kamal couldn't make it as his ranking was not in the top 48 before the cutoff date (9th week - 27th Feb 2024)

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
Dada, I think there is no separate medal for either Men's or Women's doubles... Total of 5 Golds are on offer - Men’s and Women’s singles, Men’s and Women’s Teams, and Mixed doubles. This is as per my understanding - Experts kindly correct me if I'm wrong...

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
^^^ Correct. Mens doubles and womens doubles are only 1 match out of the 5 matches in team events.
Our only unlikely hope I think is womens team event- Manika, Sreeja and Ayhika and Suthirtha Mukherjee have all shown that on their day can pull off big upsets. Still we would be underdogs in mostly all the matches and will have to pull off 2-3 upsets.

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
Sir, in Women's Team Event also, a max. of 3 players are allowed per Country. I presume in that case it will be difficult to include both the Mukherjees in the Team (Considering only 1 Doubles match) as none of them seem to be better than Sreeja/Manika in Singles... I think there is a provision of Reserve Player (4th Player) but not too sure if & how we can use that to our favour (As she comes into the picture only in case of "Injury or Illness")!sameerph wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 4:50 pm ^^^ Correct. Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
Yes, I had read that. I think in that case Mukherjees need to be played as they would mostly have better chance to win their match as against Sreeja/Manika win their singles matches- Mukherjees are ranked 14th in doubles with 2 different country pairs ranked ahead of them and 4 Chinese pairs. So, there would be only 5-6 pairs who would be ranked ahead of them. Ayhika Mukherjee pulled off an upset against world #2 in recent world team championships.

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
This was likely what we would have done previously but it gets harder with Sreeja in the top-40 now.
