BWF European Series tournaments- Feb/March 2025

Post by sameerph »

4 weeks of tournaments in Europe starting this week with BWF super 300 German open than super 300 Orleans Masters in France, than super 100 All England and super 300 Swiss Open.

Lots of Indian players this week at German open ( except the very top layer) and decent results so far.

In mens singles, 59th ranked Tharun Mannepalli upset 34th ranked Brian Young of Canada in second round and thru to the QF. He plays third seed Frenchman Toma Junior Popov ranked 18 in QF.

In womens singles, 3 young Indian players have made it to the QF- 17 year olds Rashita Ramraj and Unnati Hooda and 19 year old Tasnim Mir are thru to the QF. None of them were seeded to make the QF. Quarter finals will be much tougher aganst higher ranked players, hope at least 1 of them wins.

In mixed doubles, 8th seeds Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto have made it to the QF.

Back to back QF for Rakshitha at S300 events. She has improved massively in the last few months. Hope she cracks top 30 soon.

Unnati was runner-up last week at Singapore IC and now this week she has made it to the QF of German Open.

Heartbreak for 17 year old Unnati Hooda as she missed 2 match points in second game and 3 in third game to lose 21-15 23-25 22-24 against 2019 world junior champion from Japan. :-(

Other Indians in singles too lost in the QF''s.

Only the doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto are in the SF.

This week at Orleans Masters super 300 tournament, the only Indian surviving in QF is 19 year old Ayush Shetty ( #48) who had excellent upset win against #12 ranked Loh Kean Yew in first round and a win #38 Jason Gunawan in second round. He will play #31 Dane Rasmuk Gemke in the QF.

Ayush Shetty continues his great run at Orleans Masters beating #31 Dane Rasmuk Gemke in the QF - 21-16, 21-23, 21-17.

Ayush could have won in straight games but could not convert couple of match points in second game.

Ayush will be up against second seed Chun-Yi LIN (TWN,14) in the SF.

^^^^Good to see a relatively young player coming up on the mens side. Hopefully, this is a break out tournament for him as he continues this run.

Shetty loses 13-21, 15-21 to #14 CY Lin (TWN) in the SF. So not a full breakthrough yet but a promising one for Ayush!

Great achievement at the age of 21. She needs reliable partners and she will reach top 10 in both mixed and women's doubles.

At big All England championships, we have 1 representative left in each category in second round- Lakshya Sen in mens singles, Malvika Bansod in womens singles, Satwik-Chirag in mens doubles, Tresa-Gayatri in womens doubles and Rohan Kapoor-Rithvika Gadde in mixed doubles.

In first round, Malvika Bansod had a good win over 12th ranked Jia Min Yeo from Singapore, rest all had decent wins but against lower ranked players/pairs. Sindhu lost in first round against 21st ranked Korean.

All of them have tough matches in second round as is expected at this level event.
