Top seed ousted. Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if Emily loses, too. The Brit, aged 36, is coming into this with a 11 match losing streak in singles which was then stopped by a QR1 win against a 16-year old unranked player in France couple of weeks ago. Go Sathwika!!

The only two Indians who advanced to the QF are Zeel Desai and Rutuja Bhonsale, who both beat Indian players in R2 (Zeel a pretty good win over Sowjanya). No Indian player defeated a non-Indian in singles or doubles today. Dispiriting!

Vaidehi Chaudhari also reached the QF by beating fellow Indian Soha Sadiq.
These are full second round results -
(wc)Vaidehi Chaudhari (IND) d. (Q)Soha Sadiq (IND) 64 62
(6)Emily Webley-Smith (GBR) d. Jasmin Jebawy (GER) 64 63
(3)Laura Pigossi (BRA) d. (Q)Nidhi Chilumula (IND) 60 63
(7)Zeel Desai (IND) d. Sowjanya Bavisetti (IND) 46 61 62
(5)Marianna Zakarlyuk (UKR) d. Pia Lovric (SLO) 31 ret.
(4)Rutuja Bhosale (IND) d. (Q)Sravya Shivani Chilakalapudi (IND) 61 63
(8)Irina Khromacheva (RUS) d. Mihika Yadav (IND) 62 62
(2)Miriam Bianca Bulgaru (ROU) d. Ramya Natarajan (IND) 63 61
None of the Indian players have been able to beat a foreign player so far here. Hope at least 1 of the 3 Indians in QF are able to do so.

Putting my money on Vaidehi to beat EWS. Wouldn’t be surprised if Zeel upsets Pigossi, too. Perhaps we will see 2 Indian girls in the semis.

Re: ITF W15 New Delhi, W25 Pune, March 1-14, 2021
You had high hopes, Dinesh. Unfortunately, all 3 lost.
[QF] (WC) Vaidehi Chaudhari (IND) l. (6) Emily Webley-Smith (GBR) 62 46 36
[QF] (7) Zeel Desai (IND) l. (3) Laura Pigossi (BRA) 46 36
[QF] (4) Rutuja Bhosale (IND) l. (5) Marianna Zakarlyuk (UKR) 57 26
Vaidehi was 3-1 up in the second set but could not complete the win. But, still she is still new on the circuit. So, decent performance by her but disappointed with Rutuja and Zeel.

Some consolation in that Rutuja won the doubles title in partnership with Emily Webley-Smith. I think Rutuja should now aim to be a succesful double player.

Hey, only Rutuja lost to a slightly lower ranked player. We need to get better no doubt.
