Such a packed schedule. Really hope players like Sahaja and SRB take advantage of these events to improve their rankings to be as close to the slam qualifying cut.

This is the updated calendar for next couple of months-

Jan 6- ITF M25 Bhopal ( ongoing)
Jan 13- ITF M25 Chennai
Jan 13- ITF W50 New Delhi
Jan 20- ITF W100 Bengaluru
Jan 27- ITF W75 Pune
Feb 3- WTA 125 Mumbai
Feb. 3 - ATP challenger 100 Chennai
Feb. 10- ATP challenger 100 New Delhi
Feb. 17 - ATP challenger 100 Pune
Feb. 24- ATP challenger 125 Bengaluru
Feb. 24- ITF W50 Ahmedabad
March 3- ITF W35 Gurugram
Terrible start this week, with just 1 Indian making it to R2 in the New Delhi W50, and 1 Indian making the QF of the M25 in Chennai. I hope this week proves an aberration, and the Indian contingent does far better in the rest of January and February.
Maybe 15 year old Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi can start playing from the W75 in Pune onwards, and give us some fresh hope.

I doubt this will happen. This week in both men and women is the lowest level tournament our players will be playing in this series. It will get only tougher from here, from next week onwards in women and for February challengers for men none of the Indians will even directly make the main draw and as wild cards will be the lowest ranked players in the draw. I will be happy to be proven wrong.

^^^ yes, there’s nothing new to see here. These results are on par with the level of our players compared to the competition. Perhaps, Sahaja will save us with a rare win or two.

I think Shrivalli will also win. On her day, she can defeat most players in the world. Problem is the consistency. But if it's her day, no player can stop her.

Feb 3- WTA 125 Mumbai
Feb. 3 - ATP challenger 100 Chennai
Feb. 10- ATP challenger 100 New Delhi
Feb. 17 - ATP challenger 100 Pune
Feb. 24- ATP challenger 125 Bengaluru

Kolkata has sadly gone off the pro event calendar for ever... It is sad that the South Club does not hold even an M15 anymore.

Yes, Kolkata and even Hyderabad has stopped hosting. The 2 cities which has hosted big events in the past.

In fact in eastern part of the country, I see only Bhubaneswar hosting some futures, nobody else. In West, Maharashtra and now Gujarat too is quite good, Indore and Bhopal host some futures, but nothing at all in Rajasthan ( I think Jaipur used to host some in the past).
In South, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are good. But, nothing in Andhra, Telangana and Kerala too.
In North, Delhi, Chandigarh and Gurugram.

So, big states missing are West Bengal, Rajasthan, Andhra, Telangana and Kerala.

WB had a good tennis culture. Maybe now, it has a table tennis culture. Cheaper sport. Easier on the body I suppose.

Now that Chennai open WTA top 250 is on the WTA calendar in the week of October 27. This is practically the last week of this year's WTA main tour calendar followed by WTA finals in Riyadh. There are 2 more WTA 250 tournaments in same week in China and Hongkong. So, maybe field will be somewhat weaker. Hope our players are in decent form at that time to take advantage of this tournament.

ATP 125 challenger in Bengaluru which has been part of 3-4 weeks challenger circuit in India in February for last few year has now been brought forward and is now scheduled in the first week of the season starting 5th January, 2026. Only one-off challenger at that in India.

A bir surprising change of timing of this challenger but maybe the field is going to be much weaker now that it is only a one off challenger instead of being part of 4 week swing.

I like this scheduling change. Going back to the tradition that lasted until the 1970s of an India circuit preceding the Australian Open (and its predecessor), which brought the world's tennis elites to play in India -- on the way to Australia. I think we should consider having one Challenger starting in the final week of December, and another in January (and eventually making the latter an ATP250 at least).
