Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
Govind Nanda has been quite good and has been ranked at a high of 339 a couple of years back Had disappeared after probably out due to injury. Now he seems to be back.
Govind Nanda will play Nishesh in first round of this week's challenger at Sioux Falls.

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
That was quite a surprise. I thought he would get shellacked by Nishesh.

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
They have one H2H match which Nishesh won quite easily. I think it was Stanford vs UCLA context.
I think Nishesh just was having an off day.

Nishesh Basavareddy defeated College Tennis No. 1 Eliot Spizzirri in straight sets. Incredible feat as Eliot had qualified into the US Open this year with a win over the prodigy J Fonseca

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
Nishesh has beaten Spizziri several times already including in the recent challenger final and in a college tennis spring nationals final. While he is a top ranked collegiate player, Spizziri isn't a player with big weapons, so is having trouble winning on the pro tour. Going back to old college comparisons, he is more Somdev (but not as good) and less Kevin Anderson or John Isner.

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
Nishesh Basavareddy won his match against Patrick Zahraj with a bagel. This boy is having Sumit like domination at the Challenger level.
He might be able to make it to top 100 in a couple of years. Promising signs.

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
Nishesh Basavareddy (USA, 197) plays Q-Chris Rodesch (LUX, 416) in the QF (about 3 hours from now).
Rodesch beat 8-Paul Jubb (GBR, 180) in the last-16. He seems to have a big serve (11 aces in the previous round).

Yes, and Somdev DevVarman was a finalist (runner-up) at the Charlottesville, VA Challenger 15 years ago.

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
Just looked at his profile - 7th challenger semis from his last 12 Challengers.
All of them are in USA though. Wonder if he will play some tourneys outside USA next year.

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
^^^ Hope he does as he isn't apparently going back to Stanford, so will play more of a professional's schedule next year. BTW, his UTR of 14.68 is higher than Sumit (14.61) right now. The guy he beat Rodesch has a pretty big game and finished in the College top 10 each of the last 2 years. His UTR of 14.18 is quite a bit higher than RamK for example.
