Not really. He is already there. No need to prepare for anything. Just look at what has happened since he last came. Words are cheaps, results should be what we should see.

Not a single post on 2024 election results yet? Quite unexpected performance from the opposition. I don’t like coalition governments. Not sure if NDA can avoid it this time. Who knows, last minute maneuvering may even allow Congress to make the unthinkable happen.

I have been following all day ( and for last few days) and it got much closer than everyone expected. Exit polls got it all wrong. I somehow like this reduced majority as all arrogance which had built in within BJP recently should get restricted. I do not think Congress ( or India alliance) can form government. It will require turning around too many people.

Yes, I also felt that BJP had suddenly gotten very arrogant and was taking their core voters for granted. The voters taught them a lesson.

Nadda needs to be sacked first.

I love coalition governments. It prevents extremists from being extreme. Etc. It also prevents them from doing something big that is good but I don't have hopes for that from this government which has been bleh for 10 years. So, I love the checks and balances this will provide. Autocracies are not good in general and I love term limits. Since we don't have that, this is the best that can happen in these scenarios with a nincompoop opposition.

Now, if this government can do away with some of the stupid farm subsisides, I would support them. But, they never showed any plans for doing it anyway even if they had a clear majority because of all the protests last time. So, this way I am glad their extreme nuttery will be contained.

The farmer issue is considered a big reason for the loss of seats this time for BJP by some pundits.

I too feel that this was a good result. At least I don't have to keep hearing that "democracy is dying" in India. Now there is an opposition, and BJP cannot do anything big. I don't want anything big like "uniform civil code". UCC may be a good thing, who knows... but I am done with the shocks to the system... Modi had the guts to try some things, which I appreciate -- but only half of them worked, as demonetization showed. Let us just go 5 more years just fixing the problems and not losing steam in several things Modi focused on. Things like railway modification, infrastructure, Swacch Bharat, housing schemes, Kashmir improvements, banking, female/minority education, and all that... A modified election bonds scheme too. The farm subsidy item would be nice to take up again, but I doubt Modi will go there again.

And hopefully Modiji will know that the Indian electorate did notice his government's and BJP's autocratic tendencies. I think I.N.D.I.A has been quite successful over the last year or so in spreading the word that use of ED and tax department have been politically motivated/biased. It is a tough item to convey to Indian voters, but I think they got enough people to pay attention (maybe 5% of the population, but it makes a difference).

It is also good that grand religious-centric plans like Ram temple did not help in the end. I am glad they built the temple, but also glad that the voters showed that making India a "hindu rashtra" and all that are not successful political strategies.

The story of this election to me is losing UP. To lose both Faizabad (Ayodhya is in this district) and Amethi (Smriti
Irani) is telling. While I never liked extreme Hindutva push, I do think Congress’ Islamophobia fear mongering and minority appeasement promises worked but are even more polarizing as a nation.

Indian growth will die right when we need to make a jump up given our demographics.

Fear mongering and populism will continue to permeate Indian politics unfortunately.

That said, Modi and Amit Shah had gotten too arrogant and were taking their votes for granted.

Also all the talk of EVM tampering and all has gone away now.

I am also surprised more with results in UP than Maharashtra. In Maharashtra, will all that breaking parties and all, sympathy with Thackery and Pawar, it was expected. In UP. no exit polls gave a hit of this happening. Ram temple did not work even in the state or the town in which that happened. That is surprising.

I hope this also puts a rest to Jai Shree Ram and songs with this theme. It’s fine to have faith but such overt and sometimes over the limit display was starting to make me nauseous. This was taken to an extreme and didn’t help.

Only one who got this right was Yogendra Yadav.He predicted 240 for BJP and around 50 for allies. Also in UP he predicted 30 to 40 for BJP. This was quoted by Prashant kishor also.

Seems like a common thread that BJP deserved this setback even from their most ardent supporters.. and i tend to agree as well

What do u all think are BJP’s biggest achievements the past 10 years and what are their biggest failures?

I think zation is one of their biggest failures.. elections are still being bought and black money appears to have not gone away.

Why should Indians care about what people say? People abroad are looking to destroy India as they are afraid of its future. You and I know that Indian democracy is as strong as ever, especially in a part of the world where there is no real lasting democracy.That happens not because of some magic but but because by nature, the Hindu is democratic. If Hindus were to go away or reduce to 20% then bye bye democracy.

The West will come up with "democracy is dying" and other nonsense just to control India. We should just laugh at them, not restrict our own behavior. We should do what is right for us. The US does not care about anyone, it does what it wants in its own interest. India is beginning to do the same (like when India bought oil from Russia).

Kuch tho log kahenge. Logon ka kaam hai kehna.

I feel that reforms like UCC are important. A country cannot have different laws based on religion. I have my own views on UCC should look like and this may not be the same as GoI's.

Coalition governments bring valuable checks and balances, curbing extremism and preventing unchecked power. Despite past disappointments, this setup can foster more balanced policies. While ending counterproductive farm subsidies would be ideal, at least this coalition can restrain extreme actions, promoting stability and moderate governance.
