Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Despite his impressive ranking, Ramos isn't a player with big weapons from what I have seen of him (kind of like Sumit). Assuming Sumit is fit, he has a chance to pull out the win.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Very good win for Sumit!
He was down 5-6* and was in danger of losing the first set, but broke back to force the tie-breaker... He was up 6-1 in the tie-break, let his opponent get back to 6-6, but eventually won the tie-break 8-6.
In the second set, they traded early breaks, but Sumit came out on top to take the extra break and maintained the lead through out to comfortably take the second set and seal the match...
[QF] Sumit Nagal (IND,189) d. (1) Albert Ramos-Vinolas (ESP,88) 76(6) 63
#162 in the live rankings, with a possibility of getting into Top-140 if he goes all the way this week...
Will be up against Cobolli who made short work of his QF opponent in under an hour today...
[SF] Sumit Nagal (IND,189) v. (4) Flavio Cobolli (ITA, 137)

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
When he went down a break at 5-6 in the first set, I thought if Ramos-V had figured him out and started exploiting him, but in a jiffy, Sumit was up 0-40 triple BPs. Once he sent it to the tiebreaker, I felt he had the upper hand. He didn't quite let go of it.
This is just great. I mean, he is playing top notch tennis. We need to get past the thinking that he may have a ceiling and he has his limitations and all that. He is playing the kind of tennis that can actually take him into the top-100. Maybe he will do it for his coach Somdev who has given Sumit a target number of 61, one better than his own highest rank. Even a few months ago, it looked way beyond Sumit's reach. Maybe not. May just be not!!

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Yes, I watched the first set and the 10 points which he won while breaking serve at 5-6 and then going up 6-1, depth and the intensity of his groundstrokes and his retrievals were so good. Ramos Vinalos just could not do find a way to win those points despite himself playing well.
And he is serving also better this week.

Are you counting your chickens before they are hatched? Or are you too in Germany on a Friday night?

Same as you, Dr. Mitra. I can wish for final win even though he’s only in the semis. When you beat the top seed, it’s not Basuism. Where is the other Prasen—Dr. Basu lately? Uncharacteristic of him to be AWOL.

Looks like Sumit has heard us. He's most likely going to play only on hard for the next month or so. Tentative schedule:
11 Sep - Davis Cup
24 Sep - Asian Games
2 Oct - Shanghai Masters Qualies
9 Oct - ATP 125 Malaga
16 Oct - ATP 125 Olbia

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
That is great to know. Hope he does well here so that he gets self belief to do well on hard courts too.
Actually, till the last 2 weeks of November, the only tournaments on clay are in South America. So, unless he is travelling Sumit play 3-4 more weeks on hard courts.
