Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
We need at least some 15K futures (5/20 would not be bad)

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
Just looking at total no. of pro mens tournament by comparative Asian nations-
China - 3 ATP tournaments, 7 challengers, 13 futures (10 15K's)
Japan- - 1 ATP tournament, 4 challengers, 8 futures (all 10K)
Korea - no ATP, 3 challengers, 7 futures ( 2 15K'S)
Uzbekistan - 4 challenger, 4 futures ( all 15K's)
Kazakhstan - 1 challenger, 6 futures( all 15K's)
Thailand - 2 challengers, 9 futures ( 6 15 K's)
India - 1 ATP, 4 challengers, 19 futures( all 10K's)
Except for China, we are much ahead of everyone else. Only need 5-6 of those futures to be 15K ones and we are fine. A couple more challengers will make it even better.

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
I don't know we should try to get one more ATP tournament and forget about WTA for a while. Similarly, go up on high money challengers if we can manage to raise the money. Basically, Yuki and Saketh (along with Somdev) need more chances that they can avail without spending a lot of travel money.

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
I guess raising funds for ATP/WTA events is an issue. At one point of time about 10 years back, we had 2 ATP tournaments (Chennai,Mumbai ) and 2 WTA events (Hyderabad,Bangalore) but now we have only 1 long standing one left- Chennai. I agree with you that wasting money on hosting a WTA event is not necessary at this stage with most of our women players not even top 500.
Go for either one more lower level ATP tournament or a couple more of big challengers - 100K/ 125K.

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
I guess we had 2 10K + H events which offer same point as 15 K. Mysore and Bhiavaram. But I agree. 5 or 6 out of 19 should be 15K events

I like 15k events but our lower tier guys get shut out of them. That may be the thinking behind having more 10k events. I agree with Sameer that at least a third of the events should be 15k.

Not the done and dusted lower tier guys but the talented and upcoming guys. Opportunities are few and travel is expensive.prasen9 wrote:I don't really care about the lower tier guys.

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
Ok, sure. But, there is perhaps only one. Sumit Nagal. He seems to have some money to go to futures abroad. I think Yuki and Saketh really need the support right now to move up.

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
Yes, but Sumit also benefited from current series of futures in India. Winning 2 titles helped him take to 500 which will give him entry to tougher tournaments abroad.
But, I think Gautam was talking about some of the other lower ranked younger guys like Mohit Mayur, Siddharth Rawat, Ronit Bisht etc. who are talented but need push to get up the rankings ladder or some others like Prajnesh who are returning from injury. Those guys might find it tough to get thru tougher 15K futures . So, easier 10K futures at early stage of their career are needed.
But, as I said earlier at least one third of the events should be 15K for others who are just below challenger level but are too good for 10K level like say VSP, Bala, Jeevan , Sasi, KU etc.

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
So, Kolkata challenger is out from the calendar and next year. Only Delhi challenger is there in India and that too downgraded from $100K to $50K. Not good news for our players.
There are 3 new Asian challengers at the start of the year (2 in Bangkok and 1 in Philippines). But, the Bangkok ones have come at the wrong time for our players. First week is in the same week as Chennai open while second week is in the same week of Australian open qualies. Perhaps, our slightly lower ranked players (VSP, Bala, Jeevan, Sumit) can hope to make it to the second week of Bangkok challengers as the field will be quite weak with everyone going to AO qualies. Philippines challenger may be quite strong with players losing in AO qualies can play there while returning.
Overall, few options for our players in January but almost nothing in February except the odd Delhi challenger.

From a points perspective, yes, that is not good. And, from the air ticket perspective. But, if they can afford it, it also gives them a chance to play a 15k future and win a lot of points.

Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates
I'm not too sure if this is the right place to post it, but the the Asia-Pacific WC playoffs of the Australian Open begin in 2 weeks. The initial entry last was to be posted on 17th, but I can't seem to find it and the final entry list will be released tomorrow. If anyone can find the initial entry list, do let me know.
