Lost 21-18 21-16. Inspite of that, considering Ranki/ Shetty are in their break out year and still very young, we can consider them Tokyo prospects

Now Saina's defeat them this teenager is not looking so bad after all. Hope there is a resurgence in Saina's career and she qualified for Tokyo. As of now only Sindhu and Satvik-Chirag look certain to qualify.

Watched the doubles final. It did look as though Satwik and Chirag were a bit nervous in the final probably after raised expectations. Chirag Shetty in particular made a lot more mistakes compared to the SF. Good that they got to know the weeknesses in their game. In terms of age, they are the youngest team in top 10- they will be there in new rankings ( Satwik at 19 and Chirag at 22). So, they have a bright future but for getting a medal at Tokyo, will need some more improvement and consistently going to SF/F in these super series tournaments. As of now we can probably add them as outside medal prospects for Tokyo.

It's pretty clear that Satwik/Chirag are now among the top 4-5 pairs in the world when they are fit. Immediate goal will be for them to get to the top 8 in the rankings which will ensure that they will not face the other top teams before the QFs in all the tournaments they play. This will help them move up the rankings quickly as long as they stay fit and consistently beat the lower ranked teams (they currently have a fair number of R-16 points in their ranking tally)

If they can then work themselves in the top 4 (say before the Olympics), that will increase the chances they will only face one of the other top teams in the Semis.

Adding results from Sarr Lor Lux Open, Germany, BWF Super 100 to this thread.

2 Indians from Prakash Padukone Academy training with Morten Frost in Denmark - 18 year old Lakshya Sen and Kiran George who will turn 19 tomorrow have reached the singles SF. 2 more from that batch- 19 year old Rahul Bhardwaj and 21 year old Mithun Manjunath reached PQF and lost in close matches there. So, looks like this stint with Morten Frost is yielding some good results.

These are their results this week-

At BWF Super 100, Saar Lor Lux Open, Germany

[R1] Kiran GEORGE (IND,156) d. LIU Hai Chao (CHN,83) 21-17 21-13
[R1] B.M.Rahul BHARADWAJ (IND,124) d. Rowan SCHEURKOGEL (BEL,600) 21-15 21-9
[R1] Mithun MANJUNATH (IND,118) bye
[R1] (8) Lakshya SEN (IND,51) bye

[R2] Kiran GEORGE (IND,156) d. (6) Toma Junior POPOV (FRA,77) 21-18 21-11
[R2] B.M.Rahul BHARADWAJ (IND,124) d. Kai SCHAEFER (GER,84) 21-13 21-15
[R2] Mithun MANJUNATH (IND,118) d. CHONG Yee Han (MAS,277) 21-15 21-14
[R2] (8) Lakshya SEN (IND,51) d. Eetu HEINO (FIN,89) 21-18 18-21 22-20

[PQF] Kiran GEORGE (IND,156) d.Joran KWEEKEL (NED,140) 21-14 21-16
[PQF] B.M.Rahul BHARADWAJ (IND,124) l. Nhat NGUYEN (IRL,78) 18-21 14-21
[PQF] Mithun MANJUNATH (IND,118) l. (5) Toby PENTY (ENG,61) 21-15 19-21 11-21
[PQF] (8) Lakshya SEN (IND,51) d. Lars SCHAENZLER (GER,171) Walkover

[QF] Kiran GEORGE (IND,156) d. Christo POPOV (FRA,202) 21-14 23-21
[QF] (8) Lakshya SEN (IND,51) d. Max WEISSKIRCHEN (GER,192) 21-13 21-16

Both the youngsters will meet each other in the SF .

[SF] (8) Lakshya SEN (IND,51) vs. Kiran GEORGE (IND,156)

Lakshya was given a tough work out in the second round but otherwise had an easy path. But Kiran George has pulled off some impressive wins. He beat 77th ranked Toma junior Popov in second round and today bear world junior runner up Christo Popv. So, this SF could be close.

Surprised that Lakshya Sen is the 8th seed at #51 as most of the higher seeds appear to be ranked lower than him.

In badminton draws are made 3-4 weeks before the tournament. So, this draw was apparently made before Lakshya won his first BWF super 100 title a couple of weeks back which led to big leap in his ranking.

Lakshya beat Kiran George in semi final in 3 game to make to his second consecutive super 100 final.

At BWF Super 100, Saar Lor Lux Open, Germany

[SF] (8) Lakshya SEN (IND,51) d. Kiran GEORGE (IND,156) 21-13 14-21 21-9

Next,

[F] (8) Lakshya SEN (IND,51) vs. WENG Hong Yang (CHN,102)

Weng Hong Yang is a 20 year old young Chinese talent who won a super 100 event himself early this year and has beaten Lakshya in their 2 meetings this year. So, it will be a tough task for Lakshya.

Yes, saw the match. He let a lead slip in the first game but excellent comeback in the third game where he won 8 straight points from 13-16 down.

At BWF Super 100, Saar Lor Lux Open, Germany

[F] (8) Lakshya SEN (IND,51) d. WENG Hong Yang (CHN,102) 17-21 21-18 21-16

Back to back super 100 titles for Lakshya. The Chinese are usually much better players than their ranking and Lakshya had lost to this player twice this year before. So, he has certainly made progress in last couple of months since he moved to be under Morten Frost.

I think he will move up to somewhere around 42-43 in the rankings now. Can he now make jump now to top 30 level in next few months which will give him entry in big events.
