[R2] PRANNOY H. S. (IND,34) l. Rasmus GEMKE (DEN,26) 9-21 15-21

[QF] SAI PRANEETH B. (IND,23) vs. Tommy SUGIARTO (INA,18)

[QF] (5) PUSARLA V. Sindhu (IND,5) vs. (4) Akane YAMAGUCHI (JPN,4)

Only Sai Praneeth moved to the SF.

At DAIHATSU YONEX Japan Open BWF Super 750

[QF] SAI PRANEETH B. (IND,23) d. Tommy SUGIARTO (INA,18) 21-12 21-15

[QF] (5) PUSARLA V. Sindhu (IND,5) l. (4) Akane YAMAGUCHI (JPN,2) 18-21 15-21

[QF] Satwiksairaj RANKIREDDY / Chirag SHETTY (IND,18) l. (2) Takeshi KAMURA / Keigo SONODA (JPN,3) 19-21 18-21

Sindhu losing to Yamaguchi for second consecutive week is a bit disappointing. Yamaguchi is probably the best player in the world on current form ( ranked #2 now) though as top ranked Tai lost early for second consecutive week against much lower ranked player.

Sai against top ranked Momota next.

[SF] SAI PRANEETH B. (IND,23) vs. (1) Kento MOMOTA (JPN,1)

Worst badminton year for us in a decade continues to deliver. No accountability as is usual in Indian sport.

[R1] Satwiksairaj RANKIREDDY / Ashwini PONNAPPA (IND,23) d. GOH Liu Ying (MAS) / CHAN Peng Soon (MAS,5) 21-11 24-26 21-11

So, overall decent results for us except for Sameer Verma's loss to a slightly lower ranked player. Srikanth also barely scraped thru against much lower ranked player but another good win by Sai Praneeth and an excellent upset win by Satwik and Ashwini.

Our men's singles players continue to struggle but Satwik Rankireddy appears to be taking the next step up after coming back from injury. Not sure if he can be an Olympic medal prospect but have a top 10 doubles and mixed doubles pair will significantly improve our chances in some of the team events in badminton.

A tough match against the WR #2 and defending World Champions Chinese pair, but terrific to see Satwik and Chirag has reached their first Super 500 tournament final.

Wow, Satwik-Chirag beat the reigning world champions to win the Thailand open title. :bounce: They are the first Indian double pair to a title at super 500 level.

At TOYOTA Thailand Open 2019 (BWF Super 500)

[F] Chirag SHETTY / Satwiksairaj RANKIREDDY (IND,16) d. (3) LI Jun Hui / LIU Yu Chen (CHN,2) 21-18 18-21 21-18

I read that they are going to enter in top 10 rankings now. This pair looks like a better prospect for an olympic medal than any Indian male singles player now.

Although this is only super 500, 9 out of 10 top doubles teams played here. So, this is a huge title win for them.
