Re: General Cricket Thread ...
Well, because of the quarantine, he would not have made it back. It is, of course, his choice. You can flip the argument.
So, Kohli was there to take care of his family while Natarajan put the burden of his child on his wife only. Then, you can put the other hat and argue that Natu's wife wanted to take care of the child and he should be playing. So, not his fault. And, Kohli's wife did not want to make that sacrifice. Etc.
There are many sides to the coin.
The comparison with run of the mill jobs is not accurate because this is a person with extra-special skills. The right comparable would be a hotshot painter, movie star, etc. Or even a lawyer, consultant, artist, etc. These people make their hours and choose when they will work and when they will not. Kohli is in that category. And, deservedly so.
Now, from my selfish perspective, while I do not deny Kohli can do whatever he wants to do, I value Natarajan's sacrifice more than Kohli's. That is all I am saying.

The youngsters are showing that we perhaps are less reluctant to chop and change (including me) as Atithee wants and perhaps should be a little more willing to try different people. Darren Bravo, for example, has a long run despite a lean run after he decided to come back in the last 3 years.

Terrific from 28 year old Kyle Mayers, who made 40 and 210* on debut to take West Indies to an amazing triumph, chasing 395 in the fourth innings. The Windies side was really almost a 3rd XI, as is typical with them, so this was a truly stirring victory. That Shakib was injured in the second innings and didn't bowl did help though.

Re: General Cricket Thread ...
And another Classic Day of Test Match Cricket tommorow in Pakistan with SAF needing 243 runs to win with 9 , 2nd Innings wickets on hand.
In Pakistan it seems is the other way around, wicket gets better to Bat as the days progress.

After our friend Nauman, we have a South African player named Janneman Malan. I can hear the crowd in India breaking out in a song ... [I know the Dutch/Afrikans pronunciation of the first name is different.]

Re: General Cricket Thread ...
It seems Akila has cleaned up his action and does not chuck anymore. I saw the video where the camera was from the back. It seemed the arm went straight and did not have a kink. A lot of people have a slight bent including Axar but most possibly that is not over 15 degrees that is allowed. Good to see Akila cleaning up his action. Most people do not alter their actions this much. But, Akila was clearly a chucker before. I wonder how long it will stay so especially if he is not getting turn and is getting carted.

Re: General Cricket Thread ...
I think his first ball of the next over also went for a six. That must be a record of some sort.

Re: General Cricket Thread ...
Yes, the 7th was by Holder and the next ball was a drop by Bhandara, Would have been 7 down with almost no batting left and 28 runs to get. Actually, Lankans could have won. What a night would have been. Hat trick, 7 sixes on trot, and still a win!!Atithee wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 2:51 amI think his first ball of the next over also went for a six. Re: General Cricket Thread ...
Actually, the number of lbws has not increased. But, the number of lbws given to spinners has increased. For pacers, it has decreased. That is why, in India, where spinners rule, we see more lbws.

Re: General Cricket Thread ...
We should feel good that we have decent enough bench strength and a reasonable selection policy (though not always). Lahiru Thirimanne averages worse than Ashwin as a batsman and gets to play his 39th test! He is even worse than the Srikanths of the day we used to have before. Wow! Either Sri Lanka does not have enough bench strength or they have serious nepotism issues and low standards. I know some of them are injured, etc. But, still.
Dhananjaya, Karunaratne, Chandimal, and Angelo (out due to family matters) are solid players although the first two have not performed very well on an absolute scale. Then they have Kusal Mendis who is out of form I suppose. Oshanda who is promising. Dickwella is a good keeper and bat. But, then it falls off. I guess Kusal Perera was another bat they used to have. Kusal Mendis averaged 48 in four tests in 2019. He did badly in 3 tests in 2020. So, he is out. Thirimanne keeps going. Kusal Perera averaged around 40 in 2019 and 2020. He did badly in 3 tests this year and is injured. Hasaranga De Silva is a good allrounder, 23 and waiting for chances to get some experience. If you don't have specialists, get some young promising player who can do a bit of both and that way you are better covered. So, who gets in? Thirimanne, the energizer bunny. Well, he has scored a 50 here but he has flattered to deceive in the past with three low scores after every promising score or so. I think we have it good.
