More dope cheats. And in the meantime, I think WADA has de-recognized NADA.

Recommend watching the documentary "Icarus" (on Netflix in the US) which details how the systemic Russian doping practices were exposed by the head of their National testing lab who is now in witness protection in the US.

Thankfully neither of them are Tokyo olympic medal hopefuls. But, we need to be careful now that WADA has come down heavily on Russia.

Btw, what does one gain by doping in shooting ? This maybe first such case in shooting I suppose.

He was given medication for migraine and it was on the WADA list. He is not denying taking the drug.

Shaw took cough syrup, then the shooter took a medicine prescribed by a doc for his migraine and the boxer took a medicine for his eye injury.. Assuming both these guys are right, isn't it risky then to approach a private doc? Shouldn't/Does the sports agency itself have its own team of docs to prescribe medicines

Yes. And the players are repeatedly told not to use any prescription drugs from outside without triple-checking what it has. The smarter ones use TUEs to legally dope (and some really need those medicines). Our players should do the same if they want to dope via meds.

Beta-Blockers, the drug in focus for the shooter, is specifically banned only in certain sports including shooting and archery. Obviously, it helps control anxiety and nerves. There have been two other cases of Beta-Blockers in Indian shooting so far.
Boxer Sangwan was today given a one-year suspension. He claimed he had used Cap Iopar-SR, prescribed by a doctor for eye infection. It turns out this is a more serious drug to treat glaucoma rather than infection. It is a diuretic, meaning it is useful for athletes in sport like boxing and weightlifting or any other weight-restricted sport in order to reduce weight in a hurry before weighing in. Since it helps pass large volumes of urine it is also considered a masking agent, to mask steroid use for example.

Gomathi Marimuthu was provisionally banned for four years for doping. Has this been made permanent ? I don't see any report in the news.

Suresh,

You possibly know this. She was stripped of her Asian Championships gold. She had complained in the past about nobody in the government helping her. Maybe they knew what she was doing to get ahead and did not want to get associated? Or am I thinking too much? Maybe they were apathetic just as many Indian administrators are.

Don't know where to post this. I know that @prasen9 is interested in this. I am yet to read the full article and so no comments at the moment.

SB Nation article: Caster Semenya and the cruel history of contested black femininity
World Athletics’ regulations targeting Caster Semenya are rooted in a long legacy of black bodies being held to white standards.

Suresh, thanks much. This article possibly belongs here: Gender Testing in Sports This is a very difficult issue. The good doctor (bless his soul, I do not believe that there is such a thing but using the phrase to convey a sense) Dr. Bhusan, the kindest gentlest person on this forum, educated us about the issues. Since then, this has been a very difficult subject to decide what is right. There is perhaps always racism involved. However, I do believe based on the current evidence, the IAAF's decision about hormone levels is the correct one based on what we know. Not perfect but has some rational basis.

The bottom-line is this: If today a person who is otherwise a man says that he is a female and wants to participate in the women's races, should we allow that? In essence, how do we define a woman?

Personally, I do not mind multiple categories. For example, three categories based on hormone levels or whatever.

Maybe a good moderator can move this to the right thread. @ornatebrute and a bunch of others are interested in this too.
