Re: Indian Archery Thread ...
Just as our mens team did well, our womens team faired poorly to lose to Belarus of all the teams. Now, they will have to wait for the final qualifying tournament and hope to pick up one of the 3 remaining quotas there.

Wow, great news for the men's team. Congratulations
Betters our performance from last OG where we had only 1 man qualify.
The compound teams also did not fair well.

Re: Indian Archery Thread ...
Our mens recurve team beats Chinese Taipei and Netherlands to move into the final of the Archery world cup in Netherlands. They will meet China in the final.
That is a very good performance and we should now probably put mens archery team in the medal hopefuls for Tokyo.

Our mens archery team lost to China 2-6 in the final and finished with a silver. Still a good performance by one of our archery teams after some time.

Re: Indian Archery Thread ...
Pretty good performance by our archers at the Asian archery championships in Bangkok,Thailand.
Our recurve archers won 4 bronze medals- Atanu Das beating a Korean in mens individual, mens team, womens team and mixed pair team of Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari. Considering that at the Asian games last year we had no medals at all in Archery, this is a very good performance. A bit disappointing for mens team who won a silver at world championships earlier in the year to lose to North Korea in the SF but they did than beat a good Chinese team for bronze. Womens team lost to Korea in the SF but beat Japan for bronze. I would consider mens team as a decent chance for medal at Tokyo and Atanu Das and mixed team to be outside hope.
Our compound mixed team won a gold and both our mens and womens compound teams won silver in the same manner as Asiad losing to Korea in final in both events. Compound is of course not an olympic event.

Re: Indian Archery Thread ...
Forgot to mention that there will a separate olympic qualification tournament tomorrow in Bangkok where 3 individual quotas will be give away in men and women. A country can get only 1 quota per gender. In men, we have already secured maximum of 3 individual quotas at world championships. So, only our women are in race in this competition.
Deepika Kumari is top seed in that event, Laishram Devi and Ankita Bhakat are seeded in top 16. Hope one of them gets an individual quota tomorrow which will ensure also participation in mixed team event.

Re: Indian Archery Thread ...
Deepika Kumari and Ankita Bhakat have reached the QF at this olympic qualification. If they both win their next matches, we will be guranteed of 1 quota for Tokyo. The scores have been pretty poor though. From the scores looks like they are nervous as the Indian archers usually are when it comes to the crunch.
Lets see. Deepika up against a Thai girl and Ankita against a Kazak in the QF.

Re: Indian Archery Thread ...
Deepika won gold and Ankita won silver here. So,although it was against not so tough competition among those who are not within top 8 team in the world, this will give some confidence to Deepika.
With that we are also guaranteed to have a spot in mixed team competition.

Re: Indian Archery Thread ...
I guess Deepika is due for a good day at Olympics, after all the choking in the past. Maybe she will keep hearing that nobody is expecting anything from her, and may do something because of lack of pressure to perform.sameerph wrote: ↑Thu Nov 28, 2019 10:36 amDeepika won gold and Ankita won silver here. Re: Indian Archery Thread ...
Our archery association must do something (in addition to getting out of the dog house of the World Archery Federation) to address the mental aspects of Archery. I think that Deepika will benefit immensely. She deserves to get an Olympic medal before she retires.
