Satwik-Chirag have not yet advanced to quarter finals. Need to still win against British pair who lost against world #1 Indonesians today.

Different threads would be better! Both give different perspective.
Would recommend moderator to only update with results to keep it compact or just one person to do it
Something like
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=216416

Re: Top-8 finishes at Tokyo'2020 Olympics
Sorry about the QF mention, their win made me get ahead of myself imagining the impact on Indian Badminton doubles scene
But realized i can't edit my own post, would need a moderator do it ?

Re: Top-8 finishes at Tokyo'2020 Olympics
Would it make more sense to update the first post also in the list to put in the latest list? That way people coming in can find the information right up front and will not have to read the progression if they are not interested?

Re: Top-8 finishes at Tokyo'2020 Olympics
^^ Maybe better. That way only the new ones need to be mentioned here. Anybody can just point out and it makes it easy for Sameer, in case he doesn't notice some odd cases like some rowers getting into final-9 and actually finishing 8th but not making the final 6 and stuff like that (I remember doing such things in the past!)

Re: Top-8 finishes at Tokyo'2020 Olympics
Two more to add:
Saurabh and Manu in shooting mixed (finished 7th)
Lovlina Borgohain in boxing (Boxing 69kg welterweight) - in the QF
I am not sure if the hockey team has mathematically made the QF for sure yet (maybe not).

Re: Top-8 finishes at Tokyo'2020 Olympics
Will add that to first post. Also Lovlina went thru to QF yesterday.
How many top 8 were there last time? I think it is better to pull that up from last Olympics thread and put it here just for comparison purpose and also too see where those 8 are now.

1) Pusarla V. Sindhu - Women's Badminton - SILVER
2) Sakshi Malik - Women's Freestyle Wrestling 58 - T3 BRONZE
3) Dipa Karmakar - Artistic Gymnastics Women's Vault - 4th
4) Abhinav Bindra - Shooting 10m Air Rifle - 4th
5) Sania Mirza/ Rohan Bopanna - Tennis Mixed Doubles - a stinking 4th.
6) Vinesh Phogat - Women's Freestyle Wrestling 48kg - QF (injury end)
7) Srikanth Kidambi - Men's Badminton - QF
8) Vikas Krishan Yadav - Men's Boxing Middleweight (75kg) - QF
9) Team - Archery Women's recurve - QF
10) Team - Field Hockey Men's - QF
11) Gurpreet Singh - Shooting Men's Rapid Fire Pistol 25m - 7th
12) Jitu Rai - Shooting Men's 10m Pistol - 8th
13) Mairaj Khan - Shooting Men's skeet - T8th
14) Lalita Babar - Women's 3000m Steeplechase - 10th
Counted Lalita's steeplechase for 7th in qualifying, and the rarity of our T&F top-10's. Was with the 7-12 group in the final anyway.
Honorable mention top-16's: Dattu Bhokanal (rowing 13th), Manish Singh Rawat (13th in 20 km racewalking), Atanu Das (Archery #5 in qualifying)
Honorable mention top-32's: Thanackal Gopi (25th) and Kheta Ram (26th) in a field of 155 in the Marathon, 2nd and 3rd in Asia, both with personal best timings.

I expected about 20 top-16 finishes and 8 or 9 top-4 finishes. Disappointed, but not distressed. Our federations really need to get their act together. Hell, let us bid for an Asiad or Olympics and get our act together!

Re: Top-8 finishes at Tokyo'2020 Olympics
^^^ Haha, I am laughing at my own line there, that I don't remember writing - Sania Mirza/ Rohan Bopanna - "a stinking 4th"
I guess I was so upset that they could not get a medal even in two attempts and after being just a couple of points away from one....
