Yep, pretty big fail. Of course, there are 3 medals. Maybe subconsciously, I was hoping for a gold. ;-)

If everything goes perfectly on day 1, we might actually lead the medal table after day 1 of the olympics

Yes, Mirabai Chanu's event and 2 of our better medal prospect events in shooting - mens 10M Air pistol and womens 10M air rifle are all on day 1. Also an outside medal prospect - Archery mixed team.

Considering the 2nd wave of Corona in India, these projections can go for a toss if some important athletes contract the virus which is very much possible since there are lot of re-infections and infections after vaccine 2nd dose also. It would be really difficult run the training and preparation for all these athletes in India now. They should find some safe haven like Newzealand and train all important athletes there!

Well, Indian flights are banned from entering New Zealand is what I read. :D

But, yes we somehow need to hide our top players from covid.

Some like Vinesh or some of the top badminton players have already got one, I think. So, that makes them somewhat safer as reinfections are very few I believe.

The rate of reinfection of those who had the virus before or those who have been fully vaccinated is miniscule, less than perhaps the rate of serious reactions to the flu. So, while that may be a risk, the major risk is for those who have not been vaccinated and those who have had the disease before they could be vaccinated and do not gain their full functionality.

All the sports associations have requested the government to vaccinate all olympic bound athletes. Earlier there was doubt about that happening as there may be some hue and cry over sportsmen being preferred over common people. But, now that vaccinations are open for all above 18, it should be easily possible to vaccinate all olympic bound athletes. That will reduce their risk of infection considerably.

Indian athletes may not be able to participate in Olympic qualifiers due to flights bans from India. We will start seeing more of this in coming days due to several countries now banning flights from India.

Not good ! There are still flights that are going now, but they may be put in quarantine for 2 weeks. This will probably impact their performance if they cannot train as well.

This is just creation of some lazy administrator. There are flights to Europe and for tourney participation, generally even at the riskiest proposition, there is a day quarantine with couple of tests done. And what were they doing sitting and waiting for things to escalate. If they were serious about participating, they should have anticipated where things are headed and took the first available flight out mid last week.

Yes, Athletics Federation of India should planned it well as knew trouble was brewing with rising cases in India. They left it too late.

Our wrestling federation ( which had goofed up last time ending uo in wrestlers reaching there at the last moment) and BAI seem to have acted according to the situation.

Indian wrestlers to take part in Olympics World Qualifiers after uncertainty due to COVID restrictions

BAI: Shuttlers likely to travel to Malaysia via Qatar for Olympic qualifier

Indian shooting team to get vaccinated, stay in Croatia and leave to Tokyo directly from there. But having to use chartered flight to travel to any country is a big drain on finances of associations not to mention the danger involved considering how good the maintenance of such flights will be. Hopefully associations are taking extra precautions about flight safety.

As our projections for medals may go for a toss as we sill reel from 2nd waves across world, can we guess how Japan will fare on revenue from Olympics? Granted foreign tourists banned and the spectators are not allowed...but aren't the Television broadcast revenues expected to swell due to more number of people watching live TV than ever due to the fact that most of them will be sitting at home due to Work from home continuing this year!
