Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
Gautam posted a video on FB of Rohan playing. He looks to be a tall, exciting talent, very athletic with an excellent serve. Reminded me a bit of Rafa Nadal. Look forward to following his progress!
I looked through the draw and there were a very large number of Indian names!

Congrats to Gautam for nurturing a tennis talent - requires a lot of sacrifice on the part of the family. Hope to see him play in the near future.

Thanks all. Nishesh is in a different league. He plays the Qatari sensation Rashed Nawaf who was the finalist at last years Les PetitAS. Hoping for Nishesh to win this one comfortably.sameerph wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2019 6:51 am Congrats to Rohan and Guatam for this excellent run.
Another Indian origin kid, Nishesh Basavareddy has reached the final in the Orange Bowl under 14's. Nishesh appears a really talented kid . He has already won a grade 5 title at under 18's and reached a final in a grade 4.

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
There’s quite a few Indians and Indian origin players in the main draw. The ITD folks collated a list of players. Here’s the link to the post on Instagram.

Indians (total 7 players in all age groups)
Indian origin players (total 20 players in all age groups - 18 from USA and one each from Australia and Canada)

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
Anyone heard of Omni Kumar, who has had a modest first season at Duke?.
He's a 18 year old who is playing some of these exhibitions matches and is 6-2 in these matches with wins over ATP 324, 376, 447, 448 among others and one of his two losses is to #176 (Schnur). Looks like one of the best NRI's out there if these exhibition matches are indicative of tour performance.

14-year old Rohan Belday made his ITF Juniors debut this week in Albania Grade V event and made the doubles semis! 16-yr old Aman Sharma made the singles final in the same event.

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
Thanks all for your wishes and support. It means a lot coming from this group!
Just a quick update. Rohan is playing in the second J5 in Tirana this week and he got his first main draw win today! He won two rounds in qualies to get to the main draw.
Last week, he ran into the top seed in the first round of the main draw after coming through qualies. He put up a decent fight before losing 6-3 6-4.
These points should reflect in 3 weeks and it should hopefully be easier to get into tournaments closer to the US for the time being. I’d love to travel with him to India and the rest of Asia when the virus situation gets better and the travel restrictions are relaxed.

Congratulation, Rohan! This is so exciting! If I remember right, Gautam announced Rohan's birth on this forum not too long ago, right? All the very best to Rohan and wishing him to continue scaling new heights.

15-year-old Nishesh Basavareddy (USA, 235J) is being hailed as the next big thing in tennis. We'd discovered him here a while back, but it'll be interesting to follow his progress -- as well as the other long list of NRI kids.
