Lost.

At WTA 250 Strasbourg, France (Clay)

[Q2] Karman Kaur Thandi (IND,583) l. Diane Perry (FRA,291) 62 46 26

Perry played better and better as the match went on and showed why she was former junior #1. Karman looked a little tired towards the end. Anyway, opportunity to get into main draw of a WTA tournament lost.

Still, Karman gets 12 points for winning 1 match here which more than what she gets if she wins an ITF 15K tournament. So, good break for here and also good confidence booster that she can play at this level.

Yes, a really much needed good break ... Tough loss against a local former JR WR #1.

I was tracking the first game of the third set. Diane Perry was winning a lot of points off Karman's first serve. I think she might be inadvertently tipping off her opponent on her first serve.

Karmann has not entered Wimbledon qualifying draw with her protected ranking. As I said earlier, there is restriction of playing only 2 slams with protected ranking. It looks like Karman will use that second spot at US open ( after playing at Australian open with one).

So, Karman decided to fully skip the grass season which is fair considering cut-offs are so high. Instead she decided to play on hard courts, next couple of weeks she is playing in 25K tournaments in Mardrid, Spain with her protected ranking.

A stupid WTA rule, as the ATP allows player to participate in all grand slams with his protected ranking.

That's a good win. Come on Karman, let's pull an upset now. It's time!

She came pretty close but fell short in the end.

At ITF W25 Spain 13A, Madrid

[R2] Karman Kaur Thandi (IND,535) l. (3) Robin Anderson (USA,215) 64 26 67(3)

I followed the scores intermittently and Karman was up 4-1 in the third set when I last saw and them was down 5-6 and fought off 3-4 matchpoints to break the American to take it to a tie break but lost there.

Good thing is I think she is now playing close to top 250 level now and hope will get the results soon for her ranking to go to that level. Badly missing some Indian or at least Asian tournaments which would have given her some easler points.

Bad loss for Karman from a winning position.

At ITF W25 Spain 14A, Madrid, Spain

[R1] Karman Kaur Thandi (IND,539) l. Cristina Dinu (ROU,531) 61 67(5) 26

After dominating the first set and narrowly losing the second set, Karman just fell away in third set. Similar kind of loss to what Sumit suffered yesterday.

As I posted the other day, Indian tennis players seem to have mastered the art of losing in three sets.

She loses so many matches in these close 3 setters. If she would have converted some of these into wins in last couple of months, she would have been much higher ranking. Unfortunately, there are no easy tournaments in Asia these days. So, she will have to do it the hard way by winning these matches to move up the rankings.

For the record,

At ITF W25 Palma Del Rio (Hard)

[R1] (Q) Karman Kaur Thandi (IND,509) l. (6) Anastasia Zakharova (RUS,267) 46 64 57
