I hope PG pulls this one out. Unfortunate that he is not playing the AO right now.

As I had expected. Kuzmanov's ranking does not show his quality and he is better than PG at this time.

At Potechfstroom Challenger 80, South Africa

[R1] (1) Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND, 131) l. Dimitar Kuzamnov (BUL, 278) 36 46

P. Gunneswaran vs A. Santillan

Santillan is ranked 266 but he is as good as PG ranked half as much (133). Not to be taken lightly.

Could go either way I think, my guess is a 3 setter with sets going 6-4, 7-5 and 7-6.
Winner would be the one who is mentally stronger, can't decide whom but I hope it is PG.

Another early exit for Prajnesh. :-(

At Potechfstroom Challenger2 80, South Africa

[R1] (1) Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,131) l. Akira Santilan (AUS,266) 36 63 57

So, a wasted trip for Prajnesh. Not a good start to the year for him so after a very good end to 2020 in US challengers.

Next couple of weeks he will be at Nur Sultan challengers in Kazakhstan.

Finally, Prajnesh gets an easier lower-ranked opponent this time at the Nur-Sultan Challenger. Plays a local wildcard who’s ranked outside of the 900s.

He is really travelling enormous distances -- all the way from South Africa to Kazakhstan. I hope he wins a few rounds to make these journeys worthwhile.

Prajnesh is vastly superior to his opponent Tashbulatov, so it should be an easy win. I think a few easy wins are good for the mind and to get back into the winning habit even though it may not be a challenge to his skills.

I would hazard a 6-2, 6-2 type win. :D

Easy enough win for Prajnesh in the Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan Challenger:

[R1] 4-Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND, 138) d. Dostanbek Tashbulatov (KAZ, 913) 62 63

Next up is Brayden Schnur (CAN, 215). Not an easy match against former world #92.

Prajnesh beat Bryden Schnur in 3 sets in SO qualies last month in Doha. Hope he repeats the result.

I am calling this to Prajnesh at 6-4, 6-4 or equivalent. Not as easy as it was last time, but I don't think it will be a 3 setter. 2 reasonably close sets.
