Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita is not on the doubles entry list either, so this seems to be the case. I think it will be a long European stint for our number one player with the Billie Jean Cup in the mix.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Saw an update on Ankita’s Instagram that she’s on day 5 of her quarantine (probably in EU) as of yesterday. Glad that she was able to leave India and is allowed to enter EU for the upcoming busy tennis season. She was initially supposed to be part of the $60K ITF in Spain this week but because of this hard quarantine, she had to withdraw. Hopefully, she will be able to play some matches or even warm up before the RG qualification starts.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita is in the doubles main draw entry list at the inaugural Serbia WTA 250 that starts next week. Looks tough for a singles Q spot, however.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita is out of hard quarantine and is competing in the doubles draw at the Belgrade WTA250 with Mihaela Buzarnescu (whom she lost the Australian open R1 with a bagel in the second set against the Aussie wildcards). They play Lidiya Mazorova/Andrea Mitu on Tuesday.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Looks like she only completed her quarentine only on Friday and she could travel from Spain to Serbia only yesterday. So,she could not be part of singles qualies draw. She would be going into French open qualies without any singles matches since Fed cup. Hope she at least gets a couple of matches in doubles to get match practice.Dinesh wrote: ↑Sat May 15, 2021 1:23 pm Ankita is out of hard quarantine and is competing in the doubles draw at the Belgrade WTA250 with Mihaela Buzarnescu (whom she lost the Australian open R1 with a bagel in the second set against the Aussie wildcards). Ankita and Mihaela lost in the match tie break against their opponents today. Hope she gets to play some singles practice games as she heads to Roland Garros now.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Ankita will get more money, money, money.... Ankita Raina added to TOPS core group
Actually she has been in the TOPS list since 2018, IIRC. Anyway, good day for her, along with the excellent upset win at the FO Q1. Go Ankita!

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Apparently, she is now in the TOPS core group, so considered a medal prospect (presumably in women's doubles).
She is going to earn quite a lot of money this week, having also got into the doubles main draw at the French Open.

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Yes, that is my understanding too. More money from being in the core group. She definitely deserves it. And I think she will form a formidable team with Sania. Definitely capable of making say the final 8. Then anything can happen!

Re: Ankita Raina thread
Sania is assured a place with her protected ranking of 9. The top-10 ranked doubles players get in automatically, and must choose someone from their country ranked inside top-300 in either singles or doubles. Ankita comfortably qualifies, as she is ranked 93 in doubles.
I think there will be a couple of Czech pairs, a couple of American pairs, and a Japanese pair vying for the seedings. But Sania-Ankita (who cannot be seeded, given Sania's low ranking currently) will have a good chance to win a couple of rounds; then, pull a surprise and they will be in medal contention.
