Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Yes, Prajnesh too in the main draw there and Divij in doubles draw. So, opening a thread for that tournament.jai_in_canada wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 1:38 am Heilbronn Challenger, match against Denis Kudla tomorrow (Mon, May 10).

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Just read that Nagal pulled out of Geneva qualifying. Anyone know what happened?

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
I don't think any injury. He has been playing week in and week out. Qualies would have been on Saturday itself. Better to take a break and come back refreshed for French open qualies in the week after that.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Makes sense to rest and recharge. If he can qualify into the French Open, it beats doing well in ATP tournaments (at least in terms of prize money) but he has to string together 3 wins to make that happen!

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Wimbledon qualifying entry list came out today and surprised that Sumit has decided to altogether skip Grass season including Wimbledon qualies. He has entered Milan Challenger on clay in the same week of Wimbledon qualies.
We know he does not much of a chance on grass but still I thought he would turn up at least for Wimbledon qualies to pick up good amount of prize money.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
oh this is a surprise..strange decision by Sumit, earning points seems to be behind this decision, having dropped 17 places in the standings probably feels his chances of garnering 30/40/80 points with a qf/sf/f showing are much higher, compared to zero points had he lost the QR1 at Wimby, and if he manages to achieve even a Final showing, the prize money would be similar to a R1 loss at qualies, and difference being bucketful of points.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
And the day finally comes when an Indian leaves the grass for cows, and opts for the dirt instead of Wimbledon. Thought we would never see that!

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Even a final showing? Getting to finals in challengers is pretty hard. I'd say he is sacrificing money to get some more points and play and win on a surface he prefers. Is he even seeded?Rajiv wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 3:35 pm oh this is a surprise..strange decision by Sumit, earning points seems to be behind this decision, having dropped 17 places in the standings probably feels his chances of garnering 30/40/80 points with a qf/sf/f showing are much higher, compared to zero points had he lost the QR1 at Wimby, and if he manages to achieve even a Final showing, the prize money would be similar to a R1 loss at qualies, and difference being bucketful of points.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Yes, he will be seeded in Milan Challenger. As of now, he is 4th in the entry list there as field is weak as almost everyone around him has signed up for Wimbledon qualies.
So, pretty decent chance that he will reach SF or better there. But, the prize money won't be enough even if he makes it to the final or wins the title. It will be around $ 7,000+ for winning the title at a challenger while it will around $10,000+ for just appearing at the Wimbledon qualies.
So, Sumit has taken a big call to forgoe prize money and go for points instead.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread
Sumit is playing big challenger in Lyon, France this week and he gets a big player in first round itself.
At Lyon Challenger 100, France (Clay)
[R1] Sumit Nagal (IND,143) vs. (2) Fernando Verdasco (ESP,99)
Sumit just missed being getting seeded and was unlucky to draw the second seed and former top 10 player in first round itself.
