Overall, in 3 weeks he got 17K+ Euros whereas at challenger level if he had played upto his ranking he would have got about 6K+ Euros but he would got 68 points instead of 22 which he got, which would have moved him up 5-6 spots more in the rankings.

But, I guess these extra 11K Euros which he got would be more useful for him and a couple of wins more at the ATP level could have levelled him up in terms of points too. Perhaps, in the middle week, he should played the bigger Belgrade Challenger instead of Monte Carlo but in other 2 weeks I think absolutely the right decision.
Thanks Sameer for giving the numbers which explain the rationale on Sumit's decision making. I never had any doubt regarding the money when you compare 500s, 1000s qualies with the challengers. I kept only the 250s in mind (Buenos Aires, Sardegna Open) to compare with the challengers. Moreover my post was more directed towards PG's decision making. I felt that PG needs more points than money at this moment as he has now slipped to #149. As far as Sumit is concerned, earning those extra 40 points wouldn't have made much difference in these hybrid rankings anyway. Of course now both Sumit and PG are in Europe and will feature in the same tournaments (Munich, Heilbronn)

A couple of special exempt in main draw yet to clear. Hope he makes it in.
Sumit now makes it into Munich qualifying. PG needs 1 more withdrawal.

Both are ATP250 events, so I wonder what led Sumit to withdraw swiftly from Estoril and pick Munich. Points-wise, no difference between the two!

Maybe Munich is easier to reach, cheaper airfare and he already bought a ticket to Munich and would have flown to Estoril from there if he did not get into Munich. Maybe living is cheaper? Or do they get accommodation in ATP tournaments? Don't know. Much as we may not like it, the players do have to manage their money very carefully if they want to play as much as they want to and have a good coach, etc.

I think, he stays and trains in Germany, so logistics wise it must be easier and cheaper for him.

Good luck to Sumit. He is definitely doing the right thing.

Ultimately, his next step is to learn to beat the 50-100 ranked players and he is facing them at the ATP level tournaments. Playing lower level players at the challengers isn't going to help him as much in taking the next step.

Exactly. Money and opposition are more important than temporary ranking, imho. Money because it enables travel, better coaching/physio, etc. Better opposition to vanquish and take the leap or go down trying and understanding the flaws in one's game and what one must do to get to the next level.

Sumit is back to challenger level this week as his ranking would anyway have not been enough to make to qualies at Madrid Masters.

At Prague ATP 80, Czech Republic (Clay)

[R1] (8) Sumit Nagal (IND,140) vs. (Q) Zdnek Kolar (CZE,225)

I remember Kolar at about same talent level as Sumit a few years back and he did beat Sumit in 3 close sets in a futures in 2016. However, after that Kolar could not inside top 200 as Sumit has. But, Kolar did win a challenger in Portugal a couple of months back. Lets see how Sumit he tackles.

[R1] 8-Sumit Nagal (IND,140) vs. Q-Zdnek Kolar (CZE,225) 62 22

Kolar beat Elias Ymer and Bachinger (61 61) to qualify in, so he's in form. Good start from Sumit here to take the first set 6-2. On serve, Sumit is 2-1 up in the second set.
Kolar holds at love. 2-2.

Nice and easy win over an in-form player! He plays either Stakhovskiy or Popko in R2.

Yes, good revenge win over a player whom Sumit had lost to a few years back.

Next,

At Prague ATP 80, Czech Republic (Clay)

[R2] (8) Sumit Nagal (IND,140) vs.(Q) Sergiy Stakhovsky (UKR,213)

Strage to see Stakhovsky who has a career high ranking of 31 having to qualify for a challenger. Stakhovsky is 35 now and is not quite the player he was when he was close to top 30. But, he did qualify for the Australian Open earlier this year. So, he can still play. Hope Sumit takes care of him on clay though. This match will be on Thursday.

[R2] 8-Sumit Nagal (IND,140) d. Q-Sergiy Stakhovsky (UKR,213) 46 61 64

After the initial hiccup, a nice win over the man who stunned the GOAT (Federer) at Wimbledon in 2013.
