Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Coming after nearly 2 months break and to maintain the same level for 3rd straight day proved a big ask.
Infact started the S1 well ,matching his in form opponent and even broke him, but as the match progressed had little left in tank and could hardly offer any resistance in S2.
But still a satisfying outing to notch up 2 wins after a long layoff.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
RamRam, those two wins do have good RAMifications, especially after bit of a break in the progRAM.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
At Zagreb Challenger 80, Croatia (Clay)
[Q2] (6) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,215) d. (2) Zhizhen Zhang (CHN,186) 63 76(3)
[R1] (Q) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,215) l. (Q) Sabestian Baez (ARG,218) 46 06
Excellent win for Ramkumar in Q2, but a tame loss to an Argentine claycourter in R1. Still, great preparation for the FO.
Ramkumar/Balaji also lost narrowly in doubles 76(6) 67(12) 9-11 against Martin/Jebavy.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
That guy Baez has gone on to upset seventh seed Damir Dzumur and second seed Pedro Martinez in the next 2 rounds to reach the SF. So, this 20 year old does seem like a real talent which RamK ran into.
In the meantime, RamK has pulled of Challenger in Biella, Italy next week. He looked tired in second set of his match against Baez. Hope he is ok and will be fit for FO qualies the week after next and more importantly grass season thereafter where he can do some damage.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
RamK had indeed got covid as per this article by Kamesh in Hindu and has now recovered and training in Barcelona-
Ramkumar Ramanathan training in Barcelona
He probably should have played this week's Biella Challenger, pretty weak field compared to usual European challengers. Chinese Zheng ( whom RamK beat in straight sets last week in qualies) is second seed and reached the semi final there.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
As we discussed in another thread, RamK is playing one last challenger on clay this week before moving to UK for grass season.
At Biella 7 Challenger 80, Italy (Clay)
[R1] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,216) vs. Blaz Kavcic (SLO,217)
As close as it can get in terms of rankings but Kavcic had better results on clay having reached a challenger final on clay last month. So, he would be the favorite.
RamK and Bala are playing together in doubles.
[R1] (3) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND) / N. Sriram Balaji (IND) vs. (WC) Marco Bortolotti (ITA) / Luca Vanni (ITA)

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
But with each day spent on clay , will give him lesser time to prepare for Grass qualies at Nottingham.
Irrespective of singles result , the Dbls draw looks good and might keep him occupied till Thu or even more , and than a day for travelling from Italy to Nottingham would give him insufficient time to practice on grass where the qualies would start on Sat/Sun,should have skipped just it like he skipped the same venue before the FO.

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Thumping win for RamK against similar ranked player.
At Biella 7 Challenger 80, Italy (Clay)
[R1] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,216) d. Blaz Kavcic (SLO,217) 61 61
Next,
[R2] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,216) vs. (Q) Jacopo Berrettini (ITA,532)
RamK may have got a bit lucky as Jacop won against 4th seed Petrivic when he retired early in second set. Otherwise, Jacopo has been playing at futures level .

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread
Power hitting groundies with precision, even won each of the long rallies, everything fell in place, lucky to face a qualifier in the 2nd round, with draw opening up and a weak field, can even win the tournament if he continues to play in the exact manner which he played today.
