On Tennis Channel they mentioned that the courts in Melbourne (for at least one of the mens tournament) was quite quick. If this was one on of those courts, then Sumit has no chance against ATP level opponents on the faster courts as reflected by the score line....

Re: Australian ATP/WTA tournaments - Jan-Feb 2021
Ankita with a nice comeback win to beat Cocciaretto 5-7, 6-1, 6-2
I think this might be her first win at a WTA250 level or higher.

Re: Australian ATP/WTA tournaments - Jan-Feb 2021
Ankita registers her first WTA tour win. Surprised nobody followed or posted the scores.
She started very well to lead 3-1 at a moment but ended up losing the first set 7-5. But came back very strongly to take the rest of the match. Final result 5-7 6-1 6-2.

Ankita pockets 28 ranking points and $1,900 for reaching R2. Up next, she faces wildcard entrant Kimberly Birrell (#625, career high 235) who conveniently recorded an upset win over French woman Alize Cornet in straight sets.

Re: Australian ATP/WTA tournaments - Jan-Feb 2021
Remember the Aussie pair who beat Raina/partner in the first round of AO. One of those girls - 18yo Olivia Gadecki, unranked in the WTA level, stunned the top seed, world number 4 Sofia Kenin at the Phillip Island WTA today. Olivia won 2-6 7-6 6-4.

Ankita's second round match first up at 11 am local time tomorrow. Both Ankita and Pranjala play their doubles R1 matches later. Good luck for Pranjala for her WTA debut.

Pranjala and partner moves into the next round with a walkover from their opponent as Hibino sustained an injury during her singles match yesterday.
