The list is of players we follow here. Vijay Singh (and Daniel Chopra) have a good following among the forum members, just like Neha or Sunitha in tennis. We also followed Sikha and P$ at a time when they were not Indian citizen.India1989 wrote:Well, Vijai Singh plays for Fiji. I know that he originated in India but he plays for Fiji. So why is he in this ranking lists.

That's good that they follow this forum. Atleast they are of Indian origin. But only if Indian government let them play for Indian then it would have been so good.
Keep up the good work Vijai, Daniel, Neha, and Sunitha.

Does Gaurav still play on the tour? I remember seeing his name about 15 years ago (along with Rohtas Singh). That name just bought back some memories back from the days when I was following golf in India (when we didn't have anyone doing that good on the asian/world tour)846. Gaurav Ghei

Gautam, if you follow Asian Tour thread, you'll see that Ghei has been quite active on Asian tour. Gaurav will always be remembered for being the first Indian to play a major tournament when he qualified for British Open in 1997. Gaurav also beat Colin Montgomerie in the Alfred Dunhill Cup at St Andrews as India stunned Scotland at the home of golf.
Gaurav is 37, so he has some golfing years in him. He has played 13 tournaments so far in 2005, although his performance has not been too good this year. Here are his results for 2005
Mercuries Taiwan Masters T12
Taiwan Open T49

Volkswagen Masters-China T24

Macau Open MC
S K Telecom Open MC
BMW Asian Open MC
Standard Chartered Indonesia Open T19

Ah. Thanks Ajay. I admit I haven't followed the Asian thread that closely other than just giving it a glance once every few weeks!! I'll do now!

Gaurav sadly has failed to live up to the enormous promise he showed as a teenager (when he was among the best in the world in his age group, a la Sania Mirza and Karan Rastogi in tennis in later times...). But he remains a game trier on the APGA tour.

Shiv Kapur finished 17th in the Asian order of merit. I think he deserves a big round of applause for that, and as Daniel mentioned during the chat session, Shiv is certainly the guy to look out for....

Shiv Kapur was ranked #919 on May 1, 2005 and is at #200 seven months later. Golf rankings are based on the number of tournaments played over two years with a minimum of 40 tournaments to be used for calculation purpose, and Shiv has played only 23 tournaments. His total points earned were divided by 40 instead of 23 and yet he managed the #200 spot in the world.

Meteoric rise for Shiv Kapur, suggesting he is a remarkably consistent player who rarely wastes his starts. I hope he qualifies for the big tours soon -- either EPGA or PGA. Joint EPGA/APGA events would be a good place to start for the APGA's 2005 Rookie of the Year.

Yup, Jyoti too had a good rise. He still have a better ranking than any other Indian ever had. I'm not sure but quite probably IIRC the best ever ranking byIndian after Jyoti, is by Jeev, which was probably in 130s.India1989 wrote:Good rise by Shiv Kapoor and Jyoti Randhawa. keep up the good work.
