Re: Indian Weightlifting Thread ...

Indian women weightlifters, without the spinach, is an oxymoron. Middle school girls in the west would kick grown Indian women's butt if they ever got into a tiff. Weightlifting championship is a joke. That being said, I am not very aware of the physical prowess of the East Indian girls/women (e.g....

Heartbreak for Longjumper Premkumar

Promising Long jumper PremKumar broke national record by jumping 8.12m but then a strong tail wind made the jump void. Nevertheless, this guy is one to watch out as he recently became only the fourth Indian ever to jump 8m and has been very consistent from junior level itself. http://sports.ndtv.com...

Re: Indian Athletics Thread ...

Mugu, what's ur take on Rajesh Kumar Bind of Army Sports Institute who recently broke national record in Javelin throw in the recently concluded national junior athletics meet. There was a report in Manorama that he even surpassed Olympic B standard and since he is from Army Sports Institute, we can...

Re: Indian Volleyball (2012 Asian Men's Cup)

Iran- India match has stated. Iran took the first set by 25-23 and second set is going on right now. As expected, our libero is messing up the first passes and Iran is up by 4 points already. When will we learn to give a simple good first pass against quality teams? The live streaming link is below:...

Re: 2012 Summer olympics

Sushil has lost 2-0 to the Japanese as he was technically better than Sushil. Seems like he has read my diminutive comment and taken it pretty serious. :-( But this silver and bronze in Wrestling will increase the interest in wrestling and pour more money and facilities to this long neglected sport....

Re: 2012 Summer olympics

Regarding India's chances in Gymnastics, What happened to Ashish Kumar who has won Bronze in Asiad 2010 in men's floor exercise. If he can win bronze in Asia, he can surely try winning one in Olympics because usually this event is dominated by Asians. In this Olympics, the Gold and Silver went to a ...

Re: 2012 Summer olympics

Sorry for the usage of the word dimunitive, that came in a jest. :D .
But the main point of discussion is their sports system. let us discuss that. Does anybody know how does they scout and train all these athletes?

Re: 2012 Summer olympics

This is incorrect. They are much larger than Indians on average. Korean men are 3-4" taller than Indian men on average. I don't know the equivalent statistic for Japan, but I'd guess it is similar. Is it? Whatever I have seen in real and TV, they appear smaller than us. Also their volleyball t...

Re: 2012 Summer olympics

How does the dimunitive Japanese and Koreans get these many medals? That too even physically intensive sports like Wrestling ,Swimming etc. An average japanese or Korean is much smaller than an average Indian so it would be more difficult for them to find out athletes strong enough to do these sport...

Re: 2012 Summer olympics

How about Judo? As a layman, for me it looks pretty similar to wrestling and some of our wrestlers can give it a try. Meanwhile even brits are amused at how Manoj kumar has lost against Stalker. Here is one article and the comments itself give us an idea of what Brits think about this bout. I watche...

Re: Hockey at the London Olympics, 2012

Honestly speaking ,I was expecting this. I was hoping that we could at least defeat Korea, the sole Asian team in our group, but by the way we played against the kiwis and Germans, I could see this coming. :-( And guys, dont lose your hopes. That's what glory-hunters do, not real fans. Even Indian f...

Re: Hockey at the London Olympics, 2012

SSP, what is our real problem in Hockey? Is it bad strategy or players with absolutely no skill and basics which boils down to bad coaching at youth level. If it is the first, then I guess hiring a better coach as Jay said ,would help us but if it is the second, then even Ric Charlseworth can do not...
