Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
Oh we were 4th seeded :-~ . China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan ahead of us in the latest men's team rankings. The men's team is currently at the 12th position while the women's team is at the 10th position in the latest ITTF rankings. https://www.ittf.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/2024-ATTC-Seed...

Re: ITF M25/M25 Rwanda & M25/M15 Uganda, Sep23-Oct20, 2024
Still waiting to see any kind of a spark from Yuvan Nandal who is struggling to make the transition from a decent junior career to the men's tour. In contrast, Aryan Shah seems to have been making a very smooth transition although he has been missing from the tour for a few weeks and is hopefully no...

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
The men's team also won the bronze medal. They lost to Taiwan in the semis. Pretty amazing results for the Indian teams here. The women were very impressive in beating S Korea and then losing in a competitive match against Japan (who in turn won the title beating China). The men have had back-to-ba...

Re: Indian Shooting thread
Neeraj Chopra was also a junior world champion. Being a top junior is the best predictor of senior success for Indians as well as for others. It is better than any other predictor that I can think of. Of course, one has to understand middle school stats to understand that it isn’t a 1:1 predictor. F...

Re: Indian Shooting thread
If INDIA is to win 10+ medals in Los Angeles, then the shooting team will absolutely need to win at least four or five of those. Hopefully with two more medals in cricket that will get us pretty close to that elusive target.

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
^^^^Not sure about Nishesh's injury history but he isn't frail anymore. He looks wiry fit as do many top tennis players. He is listed at 5"11", so has a smaller frame for a top tennis player these days. Therefore, he may not add a lot more power naturally but could if does the right kind o...

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
^^^Nishesh had also beaten the same guy in the Collegiate Spring National finals in 2022, so he was confident that he could win even though his opponent had been college #1 in his storied college career.

Re: Indian Origin Players Thread
Nishesh moves to the Tiburon Challenger final! Beats a lower ranked college player, JP Jones, but in UTR rankings they are the top 2 college players. #199 Nishesh is defending 70 points in this 2 week ranking period from a F and QF last year. He has defended 44 of those points but his first challeng...

Re: WTT events
<t>^^^^Well time will tell since there does not seem to be evidence to indicate that will happen.<br/> <br/> In badminton, there is no one from the US in the top 100 among men. There is a #18 in women (Beiwen Zhang) who grew up in CN and SG before coming to the US as an adult. Iris Wang is at #88 bu...

Re: WTT events
Depends on what you mean by competitive. I think they could have a top 10 player or so from the immigrant population as you note but I really doubt that will be able to challenge the might of China, Japan, or S Korea in either of these sports.

Why bang the head, Sanjay? It turned out to be better than expected for Ramkumar. Sumit, well…. My assessment of his ranking is well documented in this or players’ threads. So, no surprise there for me. Sorry I was updating my comment while you wrote this as I was checking the point by point analys...

Re: WTT events
Absolutely. It's their national sport I just checked. TT, like badminton, is mostly an Asian sport even though it is played in many countries globally at least recreationally. In many non-Asian countries (e.g., the US), TT (and badminton) are primarily recreational (backyard or basement) activities.

Re: WTT events
Oh I see. Can they get the top seed also ? In tennis, I believe they can. The seedings are done based on the current rankings when the draw is made (and not based on the rankings when the entries closed) and generally the WCs will be in the draw at that time and can be seeded even if they entered a...

Disappointing effort by Karan after his SF run in the previous week. Hopefully, he can show more consistency going forward to stay at the current level before he moves further up.
