Hi my dear friends,

first of all, all the best to you from London. My hostel surprisingly has an internet hotspot, so I might even be able to post pictures daily (not today, I woke up at 4 a.m. German time, which meand 3 a.m. English one, I just want to sleep :-)) )

I arrived at the venue when Oormila was already 0-3 behind in second set, so there is no real chance to write some notes about her match - I am sorry. At least, I took some pictures of her - of course, as well as from Radhika...

Here is my report from Radhikas match:

Radhika TULPULE(IND) def. Birgit RITSCHKA (AUT) 26 64 63

The match started terribly for Radhika against WTA #1081 from Austria: two double faults made her mission nearly impossible in the first game, Radhika got broken and was 0-1 behind. On the other side of the net, the Austrian girl really looked great and showed some beautiful and powerful strokes, so BR did not have any problems at own serve for the first games. Radhika struggled with her first serve about all the match, which made her run in some trouble again and again - but she recovered after she had major problems winning the third game at own serve and played a nice match in first set. Unfortunately Radhika wasted a break point at 2:3 and lost the sixth game. The Austrian 19-year-old girl scored another break and won the first set quite easily - and apart from that, absolutely deservedly as RITSCHKA was the better player in this set and showed a very good performance.

After Radhika clean-swept BR at own serve in the first game of second set, she even seemed to have a minor chance to break when she was 15:30 in front at BR's serve - but the Austrian girl scored six points in a row which made BR tie the score and lead 0-40 at Radhika's serve. Out girl fought back and saved all three break points. After having the chance
to win the game twice, she comitted four more break points. Seven break points in one game altogether - Radhika asked Birgit just too much to take the chance in this one, so she was punished for it: 1-2, BR to serve now. The Austrian looked quite confident now and had now major problems with her serve. Radhika served at 1-3 now, but though
she got deuced, no need to worry, 2-3. In the next game, BR recovered from being 15-40 behind by scoring three in a row, but Radhika deuced the Ad in and got another break point by a beautiful lob shot. Time to take it - 3:3, the score was tied again. BR seemed to be able to keep pressure on Radhika, but our girl really improved massively now and showed several fantastic top spin shots. Radhika won the seventh game on own serve (by the way, first time she lead!). She looked worse again, when two aces and a smash error made BR win the eigth game to tie the score to 4-4, but Radhika showed an impressing fight now and converted the her second game point to get a 5-4 lead. You could really feel the Austrian's nervousity now - and Radhika took profit of it. 5-4, BR to serve, 15-40, double break/set point. Radhika converted the second one and tied the set score. She was just the better player now.

Like in second set, Radhika started the final set with a first-game-own-serve-clean sweep game. BR still seemed to worry about the loss of second set and made a double fault at 30-30 in the second game. Though
Radhika could not take advantage of the first break point, she got a second chance. This time, the break point was converted - and as Radhika had no problems at her next serving game which she even won by serving an ace, she was 3-0 in front. BR, who looked really confused before, showed a terrific comeback. She was 0-15 behind at own serve and scored - no joke - 12 (twelve!!!) points in a row, which made the scoreboard show 3-3 games, Radhika to serve. It must have been really tough for Radhika to serve now, especially as the Austrian kept enormous pressure on our girl - but Radhika was able to stand it and scored another service ace to get back the lead: 4-3. The Austrian lost
her line now completely and gifted Radhika a triple break point. Radhika took the second one - and shortly after the looked like loosing the match against a fantastic opponent, she served for the match. No more resistance now, Radhika took the victory in a fantastic match between two great competitors. While the Austrian showed more powerful strokes.
Radhika just comitted less errors except her first serve problems.

I will head to the Hampstead ground tomorrow again, hope to report from some matches from Ankita, Rushmi or Sanaa
then. Pictures will follow not before tomorrow evening, I am sorry....

All the best from London,
Florian

Nice report, Florian. Quite a drama in the first round. Hope Radhika re-groups herself and puts up a good show from now on.

It is just so nice to see that name, Radhikha Tulpule, back in the news... I thought she stopped tennis too early. She is still only 23, but has hardly played much for about 2 years .. Quite a talented player .. Nice to see her come back .. Best of luck to her.

Thanks Florian .. Grat as usual! :notworthy:

Thanks Florian for excellent report ... Yeah Radhika stopped too early ... She is having game and was looking talented ... But then some injury issues and preference to study put tennis in back seat ... I m really surprised to see her playing in UK ... Offcourse pleasent one.

Florian can u meet Radhika and ask her about her future plan??? Is she planning to study in UK or decide to give last go for tennis??? Thanks in advance for all ur help ... :)

I will try to talk to the players today. I had no chat to the players yesterday - as usually I do not try to meet players before their matches - and after Radhika's battle, I was just too tired...

Update from Florian - "Radhika just got smashed off the court by 1st seed Julie Coin(FRA) #445. Lost 16,16. Coin was just too strong for her. No more Indians to play today. Ladies main draw to start tomorrow"

Hi my dear friends,

as Samarth alread posted in the forum, I had a short day reporting from the London tourney today. I will need some time to do some other things I wanted to do in London, so I will do them today.

Surprisingly, just one match today, as they posponed the ladies main draw to tomorrow.

(SQ2) Radhika Tulpule lost to (1) Julie Coin (FRA, 455) 16 16

It was the first match on court 3 today, and - just let me tell this in advance - it was a very fast one: Radhika could just stay in the match for 50 minutes against WTA#455 from France (very bad luck for her - for example second qualy seeded Lucy Fletcher(GBR) is some 400 ranks behind Coin!).

The match started quite unlucky for our girl with two double faults forcing her to loose her first serving game. Nevertheless, the French girl was too strong anyway. For example, Radhika did not have a single break point int he whole match. In a tight third game, Radhika held her serve, but lost all other games. Nothing really more to report about, as Radhika did not manage to win more than one point at own serve. The French girl just did what she needed to do to give Radhika no chance.

The beginning of second set started more hopeful for our girl. She was 0-30 in front in the first game when JC served (but to be honest, she did not have a chance to take advantage of that...) and had no problems to win her own serve afterwards. At least, Radhika got broken in the fourth game when JC hit a net chord to give her double break point and converted the first one. Until the end of the match, Radhika just scored three more points, one of those by a JC's double fault.

Nothing really to worry about, this French girl was just very, very strong. Unfortunately, I did not find a chance to talk to the girls as they sat and talked together all the time after the match and I did not want to disturb their in their "privacy". Will do it tomorrow or so.

When I post the pictures on my website, there will be a detailed statistic of the game containg dfs, bps, first and second serve conversion. I tried to do this for the first time now. Of course, as taking pictures, writing notes and doing the stats parallely might cause some mistakes, but the stats should be quite correct at least...

As they just played the ladies' second round qualies today (8 qualifier spots in this tournament), they will very likely play the first round main draw tomorrow with three more Indian girls to compete. I will take some time and relax today in London doing some off-court things.

Yours,
Florian

Thanks for update Florian ... And score wasn't surprising one .. Becoz Radhika was playing against top 500 after a long time .. She must be rusty playing after such long break ... And as Florian mentioned in his report that her own service was troubling her ... Truely speaking Radhika's service was created all problems with her in the past also ... I m really waiting for inside info from Florian regarding Radhika's future plan.

Hi,
the LTA is very fast, they already have published all drawsheets and the order of play for today:

http://www.lta.org.uk/SeeTheAction/Resu ... Womens.htm

Rushmi will start today with the first match on court 6 (which is an all-around-fence one, some sort of "tennis cage", very bad to take pictures...), Sanaa and Ankita might play parallely, as Sanaa is playing the fourth match on court 7 (another cage :-) ), while Ankita is having her match als fourth match on court 6 (at least, they are side-by-side...). After Ankitas match, Radhika will play the doubles, partnering her first round of qualies - "victim" Ritschka from Austria, which seems to be a good choice to me. Oormila is partnering Lena Keothavong from the UK, her doubles court will be announced. The Bhambri sisters and Rushmi (partnering Svenja Weidemann from Germany) are seeded first and second and have first round byes in doubles.

So, these are today's matches:
Rushmi - Katherine Baker (GBR)
Ankita - Irina Pavlovic (FRA)
Sanaa - Melissa Berry (GBR)
Radhika / Ritschka (AUT) - Bone/Stoop (GBR)
Oormila / Keothavong (GBR) - Llewellyn /Smith (GBR)

Looks like much work for me today :-)

Yours,
Florian

Update from Florian - Rushmi just won her 1st round match against Baker - easy job after a bad first set: 26, 62, 60.

Wow, great come back Rushmi.
