Mustafa Ghouse thread ...(Qualifies into China F1 MainDraw!)

Postby Florian Buechting » Tue Feb 22, 2005 10:58 pm

Hey guys,
I just came back from Lübeck. As the German highway workers went on strike and we have heavy snow here, the trip back took me some 90 minutes more than going to Lübeck in the morning. I will try to post the pictures on my website during the night, too, but I am not sure I will be able to do it...

Here is my report:

(3) Mustafa GHOUSE/Daniel KIERNAN def. Dennis PESCHEK/ Thomas SCHREYER(GER) 64 63

The first set was dominated by strong servers. Even in the few situations the score was 15:30 or even 0:30, this meant no risk for the serving team throughout the whole second set. Of course, this made the match somehow boring, there was not even a single break point in the first nine games of the first set. Schreyer looked like the weak spot in serving at our opponents, whereas Perschek served terrificly. So it was very surprising that he was the first player to face a break point at own serve. Mustafa and Daniel were 5-4 in front, Peschek served and was 30-40 behind. Again, his great serve gave him no need to worry twice: Ad server. But our guys came back. After deuce, they got their second break point. This time, they converted it - 6:4 first set. What a close set - the first one to commit a mistake lost the set.

At the end of first set, the Germans started to struggle with everything, especially with the umpires. But they played very confident at the beginning of second set again. When the Indian-UK pairing lead and Peschek served, the score was again 30-40. No need for a good return this time - Peschek did it himself with a double fault. 3-1 lead at own serve. Now the Germans had no chance to come back and were even lucky to turn a 15-40 at Schreyer following serve to winning the game. But they had to chance to beat Mustafa's and Daniel's serve.

Though there were too few rallies, our guys deserved to win a stunning battle. Both teams acted well, but Daniel and Mustafa acted more like a good doubles team and scored the smarter and more important points - and took advantage of their opponent's weakness.

Hi,

thanks - though you could also change "amazing" to "crazy" or "mad", I think :-)

Sorry that I forgot this. I had a some minute chat with Mustafa and a short talk with Daniel (but nothing really special we talked about...) after the match. Because of the Davis Cup break and some weeks with no suitable challengers for him, Mustafa will leave Germany after the Lübeck challenger and go back to Barcelona to have a week of training. After that he is planning to do some satellites. Most poissibly in France, he told me.

Yours,
Florian

Great job once again Florian. The word "fan" was made for you. :notworthy: I don't think words can express our appreciation. Thanks.

:Offtopic: P.S. If you are a Leverkusen fan sorry for my team spoiling your day

I come from the Rhineland region, which is around Cologne, Bonn and Leverkusen. But I am a member (andI have been season ticket holder for a longer couple of years) of the FC Cologne, the great Leverkusen rivals. So I sent my deepest thanks to the Anflied Road :-) So no need to worry, just to be happy :-)

Lest anybody thinks Florian is just a crazy nut who doesn't have a life, I would like to tell everybody that he has recently completed (or has almost completed) his post-graduate thesis in optimization techniques for airlines(?) .. Can't remember if it was an MS or a PhD thesis he was working on.

Thanks Florian!

Interesting to see that Mustafa has opted not to go to India for the futures...

yeah, I was wondering about that, too - but I forgot to ask. If Mustafa played in the Saturday's semifinal, I might go there again as I have an umpire job on Sunday in nearby Hamburg, so I could do this :-)

Absolutely wonderful that Florian could be there for this match. Clearly it seems to have inspired Mustafa to perform at a whole new level. Fantastic. Florian epitomises what a real Indian sports fan should be...
