Sania Mirza - General Discussion of tennis matters

Postby Sandeep » Fri Sep 30, 2005 3:20 pm

I hate people like this movie star who is talking to her about movies. Simbu and Dumbu or whoever. Stick to what you do and leave other alone, dude. She is a tennis player. Tennis is what she should do - nothing else.

Simbu = Silambarasan! In one of the interviews Sania outright denied any possibility of acting in movies not just now but in future also.

But I also heard a rumour that Sania is acting alongside Shahrukh in Hindi! But that is a 2 sec role in which she is a tennis player, Shahrukh comes in and says I love you to her and she has to give a serious look and get away of that place.

I believe it is just a rumour!

That is correct, Arjun ... Karan is just a solid solid player, a pretty damn good athlete too, who is all-round good pure tennis with a lot of talent to go up the ranks to high levels, but there isn't a shockingly superlative item in his game that make people go "Jesus" as in Sania's case ..

Leander's super athleticism even as young boy, and Rohan's booming serve (at one time MB's too) were cases that one could really notice. Actually even a big serve does not really get you noticed all that much, because there are indeed some huge server out there in India who have not panned out, due to other deficiencies. Admittedly, this is tough on the men's side for somebody to show a weapon that would be as noticed as Sania's forehand (as many women still play soft tennis even at high levels), and a weapon like Harsh's return do go unnoticed too - because there are others on tour with such weapons .. But the point remains that except for his total tennis abilities and good athleticism, Karan does not get noticed for an item in his game that make people go "Jesus" ..

Sania Mirza - General Discussion of tennis matters

I'm sorry guys. I did email Imran soon after my post before reading Jay's post etc. (I was so agitated. Because one small interview in a Tamil newspaper will be picked up national dailes and everyone will splash news all over and this will be a distraction.), and he replied to me that there is no way in the world Sania is going to act in any movies.

Please, please, refrain from emailing people -- because they are all already swamped with emails. Imran is very good at handling it, but we don't want people to feel that this forum is causing them more hassles!

Even if you got the email address with nothing to do with the forum, I know that a lot of people think that all the fans who contact them, etc, are all from here!

Jay - I agree with you 100%. I met and had long chats with him several times during Forest Hills and US Open and he gave me his email id so that I can email my pix from the digital camera (as u know hardly any pix were taken during the initial rounds of FO). I'm extremely reluctant to email people and I said sorry for distrubing him in his busy schedule. This is my second email after sending him the pix long time back.I would be extra cautious in the future regarding emails. SORRY !

Movies should be a big No-No at this time of her career. It's good to note that Team Sania have their priorities right.
Sania has her fair share of media exposure..with all the brands that she endorses. She doesn't need any more..at least not now.

Yes, Sania the tennis player would be shooting herself in the foot, if she starts shooting for the movies now :) .

ROFL! Sorry for some off topic material. silambarasan, the son of T.Rajendar(who was nicknamed "gorilla" for his beard and hair by my peers :) ) an actor director of the 80's.T.Rajendar was known for hard hitting dialogues with sharp humorous retorts and politics with DMK.This silambu guy acted as a child actor infew movies at that time, disappeared during teens and has now come back as a fledgling actor.

His first few movies i gather were big flops.but his last film manmadhan was a success(it had my head spinning though) as a actor director.in that film he roped in north indians like mandira ,yana gupta for item numbers
.Can't believe this guy has her cell no! sania's future i think is at huge risk :)

No sane person or a true tennis lover can be against sania. What she has done for Indian tennis can not be over emphasised. In my opinion she is the best ever Indian Tennis player, after Sr. Krishnan--ahead of LP,MB,VA AND JR. KRISHNAN.

The point is in India you MUST have a godfather to succeed. Some politician, some businessman or the association.Sania was lucky to get the support of Politician Naidu,Businessman GVK and association through RAJA NARSIMHA RAO,PRESIDENT OF AP TENNIS ASSOCIATION.These three most influential people of Hyderabad had THE VISION AND THEY SAW THE TALENT OF SANIA AT A VERY EARLY STAGE.I only wish other politicians and businessmen learn from these guys.

I also dont like comparing sania and karan .It has nothing to compare their game or anything like that. The point is Karan's achievements ,as a junior and in the first year of his professional career are remarkable.World no 3 singles position in junior, aus open semi in singles and the fact that in the last 12 months he has jumped almost 700 places in ATP ranking -from around 1200 to around 500-make him a special boy.But the media ,govt. in maharashtra and corporates in bombay have completely ignored him.His recent performance in satellite is not even mentioned in times, mid day or HT .THIS IS RIDICULOUS.

Very good point. It is very difficult for the men. Most of the men are in the same category power-wise,and even a big serve may not help them get ahead.A big serve is almost essential in men's tennis. No dementieva's on the men's side! That is partly why the men take longer to mature. They need to add more to their game than just pounding the ball, and sending down huge serves (roddick is an exception  ).The corporates should be more patient when sponsoring boys.It will pay dividends in the long run.

But i think Sania's forehand would be noticable even on the men's side(esp if it is in fact as big as roddick's  ).I have actually heard ppl go 'jesus' on watching her rip that forehand :D .So much more than just power.Once she figures out that there is so much more to her forehand than trying to pound everything at 100mph she'll be awesome. She should put more topspin on her forehand shots,as she doesn't do that often enough. She'll increase her accuracy, and that shot will become even more dangerous with more variety.

Steffi was really difficult to figure out because her forehand had so much variety, aside from more power than any shot ever seen before.Like federer's.The same reason why Roddick's Bazooka forehand,is no match for federer's fantastic wristy FH.
