Thanks for updates Bhushan ... also for updates on her training ... I hope first two rounds helped Joshna to check her match fitness (agree no match was stretched to check that, but atleast she must having idea about her fitness) ... So Malysian girl looks tricky opponent ... Go Joshna.

Kumar,

I got the scores from SquashTalk and the site seems to have done an about turn. Joshna does not get the home town favorite but an Egyptian in the SF.
(http://www.squashtalk.com/html/news/jul ... -7-294.htm)

Joshna Chinappa (IND) bt Joey Chan (HKG) 9-6, 9-6, 9-7 (32 mins)
Sara Badr (EGY) bt Charlie de Rycke (BEL) 9-7,2-9, 0-9, 9-4, 9-3 (58 mins)
Tenille Swartz (RSA) bt Nehal Yehia (EGY) 9-2, 9-2, 9-3 (25 mins)
Raneem El Weleily (EGY) bt Lily Lorentzen (US) 9-7, 9-5, 9-4 (39 m ins)

The gap in "39 m ins" for the last match remains but the Badr's result has been changed by the website.

Squash: Joshna Chinnappa - Starting pro career

Postby BSharma » Mon Jul 25, 2005 4:04 am

The Hindu appears to be the only Indian newspaper to report about the Junior World Squash Championships. Thanks The Hindu.

The link posted below gives the impression that Joshna had to work hard to beat her opponent in QF. "Joshna, who bettered her quarterfinal exit on her tournament debut in 2003, defeated Joey Chan 9-6 9-7 9-6 in a marathon 100-minute encounter."
Squash: Joshna enters semifinals

The on-site report Chinappa, El Weleily Advance stated that Joshna Chinappa worked just hard enough and won in 32 minutes. In fact the report ended with:

"So in the third game Chan took a 6-1 lead which is when Chinappa moved into second gear to level the game and then third gear to show us all how she can really play the game when she needs to. She won it 9-7 to win the match in 32 minutes. If she had engaged top gear from the beginning it could have been over in half that time."

The semifinal will be tough for Joshna because the four semifinalists are all good players. No more cake-walk for Joshna, I guess.

Come on Joshna and win the World Junior Championship.

Superb performance from Joshna ... She is really producing game of top billing .. Hopefully it will continue in semi final also.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Edited: Report from Squashtalk told different story from my earlier comments ... :kookoo:

It looks Joshna didn't played her A+ game in this tournament ... Mostly becoz of lack of solid opponents ... Hopefully with Badr she bring her top notch game.

While it's true that Joshna should have played her best right from the beginning, it's a great sign that she was able to raise her game up a notch or two when the she had to. That's what makes a champion, bring the best out when the chips are down.

Good luck, Joshna.

Joshna enters Women's World Junior Champonships' final !!! woohoo :bounce:

Joshna bt Sara Badr of Egypt (5/8) in straight games, 9/6 - 9/6 - 9/2. True to the seedings, she now faces the second seed Raneem El Weleily, another Egyptian who beat the 4th seed Tenille Swartz of South Africa in a close 5 game semi-final(4/9 - 6/9 - 9/5 - 9/7 - 9-3). Good that Joshna took her opponent in straight sets and conserved some energy for tomorrow's big match.

Good luck, Joshna. Go get the title !!! :goodluck:

Here is a match report that Indian sports fan must read. Many people feel that Indian players get psyched out or don't have the killer instinct.

Look at what this reporter has written about Joshna. I think that Martin Bronstein (reporter) is biased against Joshna because he keeps writing how awful her game is and yet she keeps on winning. His report is titled, "Badr Psyched by Chinappa". Egypt came out of the semi finals with one victory and one defeat. The victory came from a magnificent fight back by Raneem El Weleily to defeat the ever-moving Tenille Swartz, while the loss was due to Sara Badr falling apart under the psychological dominance that Joshna Chinappa holds over her.
