Both players strong on serve in second set so far. 3-3 with no breakpoints so far.
PA lost his serve at love at 3-4 & then Matsui served out for the match .

At $50K+H Granby Challenger, Canada

Talk of having chance of making US qualifying turned fruitless as Kash lost against Japanese qualifier ranked below 550 in straight sets ...

That is a sad loss. Have to say that playing that team tennis jamboree was hardly a good preperation for a such a crucial tournament.

Its really unfortunate that PA is not doing well at all and is going down. This match I expected him to win. Its a big struggle for him now onwards. May be he should join LEE,HESH AND RB AND HARSH as a doubles specialist. He will do wonders in doubles

I agree that decision to play team tennis is proving to be a bad one. He missed crucial period when he could have made some points to be able to make the cut for US open qualifying . Further, with those short matches there he would not be so well prepared to play longer matches at challanger level.

Now, he needs to badly earn some points in next 3-4 weeks where he has got in the main draw of challengers. Else, after that he will have go down to futures level to bring his ranking up.

But then this is PAs first hard court tournament in almost 3 months and Matsui with his vast experience is not a bad player. Not a shocking result for me.

no way ,playing purely doubles and joining the above gang is for those who have given up on singles ( with exception of RB who still makes an effort to play singles whenever possible) and PA has lots in him to offer for covering the full court and doubles should be his second choice.
I agree with Sandeep in which lack of match play contributed to this horrendous result.

Then when are we going to start seeing some results. Except for a fluke run at Newport, PA's career has been so inconsistent. With below average ground stokes, and an average net game, there is not much opportunity for him to go anywhere. What should his goal be? Inside top 200 or just make an occasional run in a challenger?

Prakash withdrew from this week's Samarkand challenger. It seems the reason for his last week's withdrawal from Bejing challanger was due to wrist injury. Hope it is not serious .

With Prakash's ranking now slipping to 339, entries into challengers are going to get tougher and tougher. He might be having to play qualies to get into challengers going forward. It's sad to see his career slowing going downhill. Hopefully he will turn things around, but I haven't seen anything positive from him in a while to feel that he could. :-(
