I watched most of the first set and about half the second set. As I said, what stood out to me was that Somdev didn't have an extra gear for the big points. Hence the 6 SP missed. Tisparevic played better on the big points. This is probably a combination of playing five days in a row and his counter-punch style of play.

Another thing is that Somdev hasn't completely figured out when to attack & when to defend. He counter punches for the most part, but the switch up to higher aggression seemed to come at poorly chosen moments. That is something he will probably figure out with more exposure to top players.

Even I realised that when I saw him play in Aptos. But again its still positive. He is working on it. I feel he has taken a slightly long term view and its great to see him still hanging on.

After losing this long first set Somi couldn't fight much in next set ... It must be tiring as this was his 5th match in as many days in LA heat ... What is heartening he is showing improvement in his game while playing against these top players ... Go Somi.

In doubles Rohan and Aisam comeback strongly in the match after losing first set in tie-break against British pair ... Next they r facing experienced players Frenchman Clement and Israeli Erlich.

[QF] (4) Rohan Bopanna (IND)/ Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi (PAK) vs Jonathan Erlich (ISR)/ Arnaud Clement (FRA)

Yes, it is encouraging that Somdev was able to match Tipaservic & was in fact somewhat ahead in the first set againt Tipsarevic. It is unfortunate that he could finish the job in the first set. He will be enncouraged by this week's performance & hopefully will do at least as well as last year at Washington next week . ( in fact starting with qualies this weekend).

Somdev was visibly deflated (mentally) and physically tired in the second set. Even then he was able to break Tipsarevic once to showcase how good he is in the return games. The good news in losing on Wednesday is that he gets to Washington one day earlier than if the match had been on Thursday.

The bagelling of Fleming and Skupski is probably one of the the most notable feat in the doubles calendar this year. Bops/Aisam are in amazing form and I hope for a semi or a final appearance at the US Open.

The icing on the cake would be if they can increase their doubles team point high enough to qualify for the year end tournament. There is definitely a good chance for that if they can go deep in the US open.

i think u are pulling the trigger too early. Will they be seeded for the us open ? If not then they can even draw the top seed in the 1st round.
No, i dont think there is enough reason to say that Bops/Aisam are in amazing form.

Not sure that Rohan is any better than MB at this stage -- in fact, I think MB is significantly better. In any case, beating a mediocre lower ranked British pair in the STB (even with a bagel) doesn't really prove anything beyond Rohan (and Aisam) are playing to their current ranking (in the 30s).

BTW, Tipsarevic seems to be rolling over Baghdatis pretty easily in the QF on the heels of his 6-0, 6-1 first round win indicating that he is playing very well in this tournament.

Another good comeback victory by Rohan and Aisam in super tie-break ... Looking at the score indicates that they mostly saved bunch of match points before winning this ... Now against Bryans, go guys.
