Schiavoni played such a mature brand of tennis - a departure from the usual baseline bashing. I enjoyed it throughly, especially the fact it's the first major for an italian. Maybe Adriano Panetta won one? There are few matches in the season that makes one have an emotional reaction, and this was one for me. The one-handed backhand, the slice and the volley were a treat to watch. Even McEnroe personally complimented her on the volley, but she told him his was better. I have watched her a few times in person and was always in awe of her skills. A nice person too! This was memorable and sports at it's best.

Great 1st set between Peer and Williams. Best set of womens tennis that I have seen for a long time. 68 mins for s set! Most womens matches don't last that long.
