Re: Sumit Nagal thread

What fabulous play from Sumit this week. He will soon be a serious challenger for one of the two Davis Cup singles slots.

Notable in Indian tennis this week

We had a thread with a title like this, but I don't think we've used it in the past 5-7 years. So I've started this one to celebrate the wonderfully pleasant surprise this week -- from Ankita Raina, who beat a string of much higher-ranked Chinese players to make the final of a US$60K tournament (bas...

Re: Ankita Raina thread

Live rankings put her at 266 now (up from 281 before the match), with a possibility of jumping to 244 (where Daniela Hantuchova now sits) if she wins the final.

Re: $15K Singapore F1-F3, May 22-June 11, 2017

We've had intermittent rain throughout the day today, but most courts are floodlit in Singapore, so they would have played on one of those or perhaps indoors. Both the 2015 Wimbledon junior doubles champions did well today in Futures singles on different continents. Nam Hoang Ly is now at his career...

It looks better every day! Let's take out the top seed and then win the title!!

What could be better than double-bagelling the TOP seed?! Keep it going for two more matches, Sumit!

Re: ATP World Tour Masters/ WTA Clay court season 2017

I think from time to time we are frustrated that people whom we support are not doing well. Then, we make emotional statements. In essence, Mr. Ghosh feels that there is not much point in Sania's playing because he does not put much value in a world #10 or #20 or #50 in doubles. But, I think the ke...

Re: Roland Garros 2017

Grass exerts the least pressure on the body, partly also because points are shorter. Clay requires sliding, and long rallies, so definitely more stress on the body. I can't quite decide how good Yuki's game will be for grass. His return of serves are his biggest strength, but that might be blunted a...

Re: Ankita Raina thread

WOW!! Ankita must have been working on re-tooling her game (which might explain her awful results earlier in the year, until just two weeks ago). But this week has been absolutely spectacular. Particularly gratifying that she is beating a string of higher-level Chinese players (now, one ranked 182 p...
