JPGA - CASIO WORLD OPEN -2004 Jeev Milkha Singh

Post by ajay »

This week JPGA resumes as they will have the 2nd tournament of the 2004 season the TOKEN HOMEMATE CUP . The first tournament Asia Japan Okinawa Open Golf Tournament was played in December that was jointly hosted by JPGA and APGA. In the Okinawa tournament, Jyoti didn't play and Jeev withdrew after a round. For this tournament, both of them are registered.

It can be quiet cold during first few tournaments and this is the reason JPGA starts late. Our players normally don't like cold weather. How do Jeev and Jyoti copes with the weather has to be seen. Jyoti seems to be in good form this year and hopefully he'll carry his form to JPGA. Since this is the second season for Jyoti, he'll have the advantage of knowing the various courses where the tournaments are played. As a rookie in JPGA tour last year, Jyoti did quiet well as he won SUNTORY OPEN in september and finished 26th on the merit list. The goal for Jyoti this year should be top 5. Another goal for Jyoti would be to improve his world ranking to say top 50.

For Jeev this is 4th season. Jeev had a very good 1st season in 2001 when he finished 34th in the merit list. In 2002, he was dividing his time between EPGA and JPGA, which resulted in not so great season on both tour. All the travelling and globe hopping took its toll as Jeev lost his EPGA card. But he just managed to keep his JPGA card with 70th position on the merit list. In 2003 Jeev again divided his time between Nationwide and JPGA. His aim to play Nationwide (NW) was that if he does well and win few tournaments, he may finish in first 20 of NW moneylist and qualify for PGA 2004. But it again backfired as near the end of the JPGA tour, his JPGA card was still not secured. In fact just to secure his JPGA card, he had to take a decision to miss the qualifying round of PGA and play a JPGA tournament. Ultimately he missed the card by a narrow margin as he finished 72nd on the merit list, two behind the cut off. But Jeev regained his card through the JPGA qualifying tournament. This year, Jeev will concentrate only on JPGA tour and hopes to do well. If he secure his card earlier in the season, he can better concentrate on PGA qualifiers as that is his ultimate goal. We wish them all the best for this season.

Go Jyoti!! Go Jeev!!

JPGA - CASIO WORLD OPEN -2004 Jeev Milkha Singh

7 birdies, 4 bogies and a double bogie. That's how Jeev started the JPGA campaign. At -1 after the first round, Jeev is T35. How the day 2 will go, no one can say for the unpredictable Jeev. We can only wish if he cut down on his bogies.

Jyoti's card for the first day is also quiet colorful as he ended with more share of bogies (5 of them) than birdies (3). Clearly, this was not his day and he need to do a lot on second day to make the cut. Currently he is tied at 88.

The first round leader is TOSHIMITSU IZAWA, ranked 62nd in the world and last year JPGA merit leader, who shot -7. The projected cut right now is even par. But it may easily slip to +1 score that currently is equivalent to T73.

Code: Select all

1 TOSHIMITSU IZAWA -7 64
T35 JEEV MILKHA SINGH -1 70
         Projected Cut 0
T88 JYOTI RANDHAWA +2 73

The good news is that Jeev made the cut but Jyoti missed it. The cut was applied for top 60 and ties and not top 70 and ties. Jyoti missed the cut by one stroke, especially on last three holes where he had bogie, double bogie and a bogie. But it was a nightmare for all the players today as average score of the second round was around +5 to +6. For example, yesterday's leader who was at -7, is now at -1. Only two players could break the par and one of them is the new leader HIROYUKI FUJITA at -4. Fujita had an excellent outing with a sub par round of -3. Next five players are tied on -2.

Yesterday the projected cut was par, but final cut went down to +5.
Jeev is T41 at +4. He had a round of +5 with 5 bogies a double bogie and two birdies. So Jeev is 8 behind the leader.

Jyoti, who was +2 yesterday, finished with +6. Upto 15th hole, Jyoti had two birdies and two bogies and it seemed he'll make the cut by a good margin. But then he lost four strokes in last three holes to miss the cut.

T35 JEEV MILKHA SINGH +4 70 76
T88 JYOTI RANDHAWA +6 73 75

Jeev finished T35th with a final round of +3. In the final round he had 5 bogies and 2 birdies. Note that Jeev was 35th afterthe opening day. On 3rd day too Jeev was T35 with identical birdies and bogies score as on final day(5 bogie, 3 birdie). Only on 2n day he was at different position n the leaderboard when he was 41st.

Jeev's performance in this tournament is:

T35 Jeev Milkha Singh 70 76 74 74 (+10) \460,000 (yen)

TSURUYA OPEN

Post by ajay »

Jeev is registered for this week TSURUYA OPEN in JPGA tour. I wonder where is Jyoti as I didn't see his name. This is the 3rd tournament of the season. Jeev finished 35h in the last tournament while he withdrew after playing a round or son in the first tournament.

Jyoti has played only one tournament in JPGA so far in 2004 and he missed the cut.

It seems like Jeev and Jyoti are playing alternate weeks. While Jeev will be playing this week, Jyoti is booked for the next week THE CROWNS event in JPGA. Crowns is a bigger tournament with more money than this week's Tsuruya Open. Next week, APGA also has big money tournament in China where some European stars are also playing. I was hoping Jyoti plays that tournament so that he can consolidate his position in APGA merit list. But right now due to ongoing tussle between APGA mangement and tour players, no one really knows what events will be included in APGA merit list.

JPGA - CASIO WORLD OPEN -2004 Jeev Milkha Singh

Pretty poor week for our guys. Let's hope Jyoti pulls out of his brief slump -- after the high of qualifying for the British Open. Jeev's inconsistency remains, but he appears not to have regained form after his injury -- and he is clearly playing at a lower level in the past year compared with what he was doing about 2-3 years ago before the injury layoff...

PKB you are talking about a tournament that was almost a month back. Jyoti missed the cut before British Open qualifer. After the high of British Open Qualifier, he has not played any tournament, so where is the question of slump?

TSURUYA OPEN

Post by ajay »

Jeev had a very bad last hole (par 4, 9th hole of the course) that has put him in a difficult position. Jeev had a triple bogie on the last hole that resulted in +4 for the first round. The projected cut is par. So Jeev'll need to bring out something special in his 2nd round to make the cut.

Apart from triple bogie, Jeev had four more bogies and three birdies in his first round.

The triple bogie on the last hole on the first day turns out to be the stumbling block, as Jeev finished the 2nd day with a -2 round (4 birdies, two bogies) and a tournament total of +2. He is currently 84th on the leaderboard. There are many players still on the field. The final cut may be at +1. Just like his bad luck in British Open qualifer, where he missed a berth by one stroke, he will probably miss the cut by one stroke. Tough luck

THE CROWNS

Post by ajay »

This week all the top Indian golfers will be active in three different tours. While Daniel and Arjun will play in PGA tour, Jyoti Randhawa will be playing in The Crowns tournament in JPGA tour. Jeev Milkha Singh and others are playing in Asian tour.

Jyoti has played one tournament in Japan this year and he missed the cut. But so far he has been in good form this year and hopefully he'll give another good performance. Jyoti Randhawa is currently ranked 99 in the world and a good performance can help him break his own record of 90.

The first round for Jyoti is over. He finished at +1. His round included five bogies and 4 birdies. At this time he is T63, but the first round is still in progress and his leaderboard position will change.

After the end of 1st round, Jyoti is T59 with one over par. That is not so bad. The leader is Dinesh Chand with a card of -6. Let's see how the things stand tomorrow, after the cut. This tournament may turn out to be interesting!

Jyoti had an average round again as he carded -1 on second day to be par (0) for the tournament. He is T50. Dinesh Chand lost the pole position as he also carded -1 and he is now T4 with -7 for the tournament. The leader is SHINGO KATAYAMA who is at -11, followed by couple of guys at -8.

If Jyoti playes an excellent round tomorrow, he can still make top 10. I hope a good round will come soon.

Jyoti still didn't fire as he returned another average round of +1. He is now T49 with +1 for the tournament. 3rd round is not yet over but I doubt if his posiition is going to change much. Dinesh Chand has not yet finished his round. Currently he is T7 with few holes still reminning :
