And there will be a chip on her shoulders to become the undisputed leader.
This is where the nationalistic Olympics and Asian Games are a problem. It is cruelly unjust to athletes the world over. If you want to give some quotas to nations with weaker sports infrastructure, money, etc. that is fine. But, preventing top athletes from participating just because they were born in the same region is discrimination at its worst.

The top k wrestlers by ranking should be in. The problem is that wrestling does not have that many tournaments to have a good ranking. They should start giving points for national tournaments and international tournaments maybe ELO style and come up with something. Each nation should be allowed 4 wrestlers if you want to restrict by nation. Or at least, nations who win medals should be allowe more wrestlers in the next meet, etc.

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...
Best ever performance by Indian women junior wrestlers at world under 20 championships at Amman, Jordan.
Indian women team won 3 golds, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals and with that overtook powerhouses such as Japan, USA and Russia to win a team title for the first time ever at any wrestling WC- senior or junior.
3 Indian gold medalists- Antim Panghal in 53 kgs. Savita in 62 kgs and Priya Malik in 76 kgs. All 3 are highly talented wrestlers- Antim won her second consecutive gold at WC after 2022, she beat Mariia YEFREMOVA (UKR), an internationally unbeaten wrestler in seven competitions in final here.
Both Savita and Priya are 2 time under 17 world champions and Priya also won a siiver at under 20 WC last year. Priya beat an American who was firm favourite her in the SF while Savita pinned a Japanese in QF.
Before that in mens freestyle, we won 1 gold ( Mohit Kumar in 61 kgs), 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Greco Roman still to come but not expecting much from there.

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...
That link says "Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia and former world championships silver medallist Deepak Punia have excused themselves from Saturday’s men’s freestyle trials." So that means we will see some one else in place of Bajrang for WC ? If trials happened Saturday why the results are not yet declared for Men's Freestyle ?Saffron Lenin wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 1:10 pm Indian wrestlers at World Wrestling Championships 2023 - full list

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...
World wrestling championships and Asian games are too close together, only 10 days gap. So, ideally one should have separate teams for both events.
Usually, I would say best team for Asian games and second best for WC since Asian games is once in 4 years event while WC is every year. But, this WC also provides quota places for Olympics which is the ultimate pinnacle for sport like wrestling. So, probably one has to do mix and match of best competitors.
As I see the Indian wrestling team, there are only 3 wrestlers who are common in both teams- Aman Sherawat and Sumit in freestyle and Antim Panghal in women. So, these are virtually different teams and I would say Asian games team looks the better team.
So, I doubt except for Aman and Antim who are best in their categories, anyone else is capable of winning a olympic quota place in this event ( i,e finishing in top 5).
