Bangkok Asian GP

Individual Recurve events

In the Individual Recurve event, Deepika Kumari lost in the QF while Laishram lost in the SF and will fight for the Bronze tomorrow... :goodluck:

In the Mens Indiv Recurve event, Jayanta lost in the QF..

Individual Compound events

Abhishek Varma and Sandeep Kumar who finished as the top two in the qualifying rounds are in the medal rounds... Abhishek Varma will fight for the gold, while Sandeep will have a shot at the Bronze. Had Sandeep won his SF, it would have been an all Indian Final....., but not to be... Abhishek Varma is in prime form shooting a perfect 150 in the QF... :goodluck:

On the women's side, 3 Indians, Lily Chanu, Gagandeep & Parveen reached the QF..., but only Gagandeep Kaur prevailed and reached the finals with a shot at the Gold... :goodluck:

India finished with total of 7 medals with 3 gold, 3 silvers & 1 bronze. Bad results in recurve section particulary with Korea missing from this event. Results in Compound section also assume importance this year as these will be part of Asian games later in the year.

New archery season started with world cup stage 1 in Shanghai last month. But, best Indians archers were absent in first stage & we performed badly as a result.

Now, the world cup stage 2 is underway in Medellin, Colombia. In mens recurve team event our team has reached the final.

These are our results there -

[R1] (2) India d. Chile 6-2
[QF] (2) India d.Spain 6-0
[SF] (2) India d. China 5-3

[F] (2) India vs. (1) Korea

Some the better Indian players seem to be missing this time too and this team has young players - Atanu Das, Sanjay Boro and Thupuvoyi Swuro. So, it is good to see them reaching final.
Our womens recurve team lost in first round.

In the individual eliminations, Reena Kumari reached QF but lost a German Archer who reached the final. Deepika Kumari lost in the R16 against the other eventual finalist.

At World cup stage II, Medellin, Colombia

Recurve mens team

[F] (2) India l.(1) Korea 4-5 ( 52-56, 57-58,58-54,59-58,28-30)

Our team lost but only after putting up a great fight coming back from losing the first 2 sets to win the next 2 sets & losing only in a shoot off where the Koreans had to bring out their best by scoring perfect 30. Well done by the young inexperienced Indian team of Atanu Das, Sanjay Boro and Thupuvoyi Swuro. Only Atanu had participated at this level before.

Was the Korean team their A-team or did they also send a second tier team to this tournament?

Yes, the Korean had their best team with 2012 London Olympics champion & 2013 world champion in their team. So, it is creditable how the young Indian team foght against them.

Our mixed recurve team of Atanu Das and Lashiram Bombayla Devi won the bronze beating the Mexican pair in the playoff.

In the latest world cup at Warclaw. Poland, Indian recurve mixed team of Jayanta Talukdar and Deepika Kumari will fight for the bronzw while in individual womens recurve, Deepika Kumari just lost her SF in a shoot off against a Chinese girl and will also fight for the bronze.

Good to see Deepika back in form after she had suffered loss in form leading to her exclusion from the team for last 2 world cups. This is the article on her return to form -

Deepika KUMARI picks up old bow, visits old coach, finds old form

In the world cup in Poland, both our mens and womens recurve team have made it to the final. Both our compound teams lost in the QF's.

These are the results of our recurve teams -

At World cup stage III, Warclaw, Poland

Mens team recurve

[R1] (1) India d. (16) Spain 5-1
[QF] (1) India d. (8) Netherlands 5-4
[SF] (1) India d. (5) China 5-4

[F] (1) India vs. (7) Mexico

Womens team recurve

[R1] (2) India d. (15) Poland 6-0
[QF] (2) India d. (10) Ukraine 5-4
[SF] (2) India d. (6) Georgia 6-2

[F] (2) India vs. (4) Mexico

So, we will meet Mexico in both the finals.

Tomorrow, there are compound medal matches where our mixed team of Abhishek Verma and Purvasha Shende will fight for the gold against USA.

On Sunday, there are recurve medal matches where oue mens and womens teams will fight for the gold against Mexico, Deepika Kumari will fight for individual bronze and Deepika / Jayanta Talukdar will fight for mixed team bronze.

India's compound mixed team of Abhishek Verma and Purvasha Shende had to settlle for silver as they lost to USA 151-155 in the final.

It was Abhishek Verma who faltered in the final as he shot six 9s and two 10s for a total of 74 points as against the 15-year-old debutante Purvasha’s five 10s and three 9s which gave her a total of 77 points.

Purvasha turns only 16 next month. So, she is clearly a talent to watch out for in compound archery.

Indian Women Team won Recurve Gold beating Mexico with 6-0. India was dominting all along with Dipika being in excellent form.

Hope we repeat this in Asian Games, since Women's Archery was the biggest disappointment in Olympics.

Men Team lost to Mexico
