Yes, Narender too lost and both Narender and Jaismine lost 0-5. So, there may no cause for complaint for their losses.

Deepak's loss looks a little suspect, in last round 4 judges gave the round 10-9 to Deepak and only 1 judge gave it to Azerbeijani boxer. That score of 1 judge turned the result against Deepak. But, anyway if he was one of the favorites to win a quota, he should not have such a close bout in first round.

Lakshya Chahar also lost in the first round getting knocked out. Terrible tournament.

Our boxers are generally not competitive in the heavier weight categories. Biggest loss so far has been Deepak Bhoria who is in one of the lower weight categories.

We made a big mistake not selecting Amit Phangal in place of Deepak (same mistake for Asian Games as well). He is the best male boxer and the only one with a realistic chance of qualification. I hope the selectors rectify their mistake for the next qualification tournament.

Lakshya Chahar and Shiva Thapa lost in first round too but we finally got our first win after 5 losses when Nishant Dev won with a good 3-1 win over European silver medalist Lewis Richardson of Great Britain.

Nishant Dev reached Round 3 of World Boxing Olympic Qualifier in Men's 71 kg category with a 5-0 win over Tokyo Olympics quarterfinalist Eskerkhan Madiev of Georgia.

Next, he will face 2022 Youth Worlds bronze medalist Christos Karaitis of Greece for a place in QF. So, needs 2 more wins for Paris qualification.

World bronze medallist Mohammad Hussamuddin loses to CWG champion Jude Gallagher (NIR) by 4-0 in the first rd of mens 57kg category at World Boxing Olympic qualification tournament. Of the 9 boxers from India at the start, only Nishant Dev remains in the competition now.

Nishant Dev beats Christos Karaitis of Greece 5-0 to reach the QF and will meet Omari Jones (USA) for a place at the Paris Olympics.

Nishant lost in the quota spot bout, thereby ending our miserable campaign. I think our male boxers are quite hopeless, but hopefully they let Amit Panghal compete in the final qualification event, he is the only one with a chance.

Yes, disappointing campaign for us. Nishant Dev lost 1-4 in the final qualifying round.

Interestingly, except Lakshya Chahar, in case of other 6 boxers, the boxers who beat them went on to win quota. So, they did not get the best of draw.

There is a decent chance that a couple of them will qualify in final qualifying where competition will not be that stiff. But, overall they are far away from being medal prospects.

I wouldn't count out Deepak Bhoria. He could have won his bout with more favourable judging and his opponent did win a quota spot.

Also, his flyweight category has only 16 quotas while the same event at the Tokyo Olympics had 28 quotas so if he can qualify and get a good draw (boxing has no seeding), he will have a chance.

Problem with Deepak Bhoria is that it is most likely that Amit Panghal who will get selected for final olympic qualifer now and if Amit wins quota there in a weaker field, he will go to Paris as in case of boxing it is the boxer who wins the quota.

So, mostly Deepak's chances are over.

Can't say for sure. Amit looked in prime form in 2018-21 and looked a definite prospect for a medal in Tokyo olympics but faltered there. Deepak won a medal in 2023 world championships but lost in first round in both Asian games and current olympics world qualifiers here. Amit came back and won gold at Strandja memorial last month.

So, since Deepak got 2 shots to try to win a quota and could not do it, I think Amit deserves chance this time and he may get lucky with an easier field than earlier 2 times when Deepak was there.
