Lakshya lost to world #3 local player and Ashwini-Tanisha lost to 3 time world runner ups. So, these were not bad losses or anything. A win for either of them would have been a big upset (particularly for Ashwini-Tanisha).

Re: Indian Badminton Thread ...
While I agree they lost to higher ranked opponents the fact remains we have high expectations from Lakshya. In the 2nd half of the year barring the Commonwealth Games he didn't too well. I think the issue is that he is a defensive player and opponents have figured him out. I want to be proven wrong. As far as Sindhu is concerned she has lost some of her speed and agility of court. The younger players like Chen Yufei and An SeYoung are very fast. On the men's side Viditsarn was a contemporary of Lakshya in the juniors. But now Viditsarn is ahead of him.
Except for SatChi I think the rest have regressed. But Satvik is injury prone.

The Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship is on. India has reached the QF topping the group beating a strong Malaysian team as also Kazakhstan and UAE. Prannoy is turning out to be the Badminton version of Leander who manages to raise his game whenever he plays for the country. Good wins by Sindhu and Gayatri-Treesa.

India's QF opponent is Hong Kong. Probably the easiest opponent India could have drawn. Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan were in the same group and Taiwan got knocked out. Hope the team makes it count

Prannoy has been our best singles players for past 6 months or so, team events or on tour events. Nonetheless, it was a great win for him over Malaysian world #4. Also excellent win by Tresa-Gayatri over world #5 pair against whom they had lost their last 4 matches.rajitghosh wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 4:39 pm The Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship is on. Now, I think we get an easier match-up against Hongkong.

Good win by India! Results are here.
China is up next in SFs. While that may appear to be the end of our journey, China also scraped by Malaysia 3-2, so there's a chance for us to make the finals.

Sindhu inexplicably lost the 1st set against a lowly Indian origin Hong Kong player. Wonder what went wrong. Lakshya's loss against a slightly lower ranked player is also a cause for worry. The mixed doubles pair lost to a pair lost to a pair ranked slightly a above. Anyway China will be tough but still this is India's first ever medal in this event. Prannoy needs to play today.

India lose to China 2-3. Both Prannoy and Sindhu lose but we win both doubles before losing the decisive mixed doubles.
