China were playing their second string players for singles. So, at least one of Prannoy or Sindhu should won their matches and then we would have made it to the finals. Real positive in this tournament for us is the form of Tresa-Gayatri who had 3 quality wins in the last 3 matches against Malaysia, Hongkong and China.

Sindhu's speed on the court has definitely come down. She is struggling against younger and faster opponents. It may be too late to do something about the speed.
It is sad that we are struggling to find the next generation of singles players. Opponents have worked out Lakshya's game also so he is no more a big threat.
On the other hand Matthias Boe's coaching has helped the doubles teams. Yesterday Tanisha was too error prone and she was trying too many adventurous shots. If she had played a more percentage game we may have had a better chance.
But this was so close yet so far. Against a young Chinese it is a disaster that we lost both the singles. Just shows how much depth they have and how they can unleash surprises. Looks like they used the COVID lockdown to train a new set of players.

The Chinese went onto beat the Koreans 3-1. So in that context India's performance yesterday was par for the course. It also shows how deadly their second string is.

21 year old Priyasnhu Rajawat is having a breakthru tournament at BWF Super 300 Orleans Masters in France.

58th ranked Priyanshu who is currently India #6 first beat fellow Indian 65th ranked Kiran George 21-18 21-13, in second round pulled off a big upset win over top seed and 12th ranked Japanese Kenta Nishimoto and today in QF beat 61st ranked Taiwanese Chi Yu Jean 21-18 21-18.

In the semi final he will meet 35th ranked Vitenamese Nhat Ngyyen.

After a long time seeing any young Indian badminton player other than Lakshya Sen do well at this level.

This was somewhat out of the blue, no? He beat the #12 Nishimoto, 21-8, 21-16? That scoreline itself is quite stunning.

Yes, Nishimoto won a title last week. So, maybe he was a bit tired but still very good. Lets see how Priyanshu fares now in SF and going forward.

Hope this is real breakout for Rajawat. He’s had a pretty mediocre year thus far with a 1-3 record although 2 of those losses were close. Hope he can win the title here in the final against a similarly ranked and aged Danish player. :goodluck:

Rajawat won the event. This is a real bonus in a year where singles has done pretty badly. A totally unexpected title. He was initially on the qualifying list but got in directly due to withdrawals. He goes on to win. What a story. Hope he capitalizes and repeats this success.

Priyanshu Rajawat beat the Danish player 21-15 19-21 21-16 in the final. Great run by him and he will now be inside top 40 and rise to India #4,

Congratulations Priyanshu. He deserves a thread of his own now.
