Re: Indian Badminton Thread ...
I think people should temper expectations and not compare anyone breaking through to Sindhu and Saina - those 2 are comfortably our best ever badminton players.
I am surprised about the no reference to the seemingly very credible age fraud allegations against Lakshya Sen and his father. We like posting about inane sporting achievements on here, and should not shy away from the negative news.

Source: The HinduThe High Court of Karnataka on Thursday stayed criminal proceeding badminton star and Arjuna award-winner Lakshya Sen and his coach U. Vimal Kumar on the allegation of age fabrication.
...
It was also pointed out in the petition that the issue of age fabrication was closed as the Central Vigilance Commission in 2018 had accepted the birth records submitted Dhirendra Sen and concluded that no action is required against him. The petitioners have alleged that Mr. Nagaraja had not disclosed this aspect in his complaint.

You missed out the World Championship to be held from 21st August in Copenhagen and the Sudian Cup to be held from 14th May in Suzhou, China. However given what is happening in China I don't know how many of the events planned to be held in China will actually happen.

The Chandigarh Badminton Association (CBA) will host the Yonex Sunrise All India Junior U-19 Ranking Badminton Tournament from January 3 to 9 at the Centre of Excellence for Badminton, Sector 38 Sports Complex. Vijayendra Kumar, IAS, will be the chairman, whereas Priyank Bharti, IAS, will be the president of the organising committee for this tournament. The event will be conducted in association with the UT Sports Department.
As many as 1,200 players and officials from across the nation will participate in this seven-day national championship, claimed the organisers. Notably, this event will be a national ranking-cum- selection tournament for the forthcoming two international tournaments, scheduled to be held in Netherlands and Germany.

Digging back old news from March'2022. The news article confirmed that Tan Kim Her was appointed coach for Indian doubles right? Now when i check he seems to be working with Japan doubles teams. So who is coaching Sat-Chi and Arjun-Dhruv? There is hardly any news of singles coach Mulyo Handoyo too.sameerph wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 4:46 amNot sure of Mulyo but KIm is confirmed to be returning to India.srini wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 2:00 pmreplying to my own post from December. No news of Mulyo or Kim returning to India for coaching after that! Was that simply Mulyo's way of putting pressure on his current employer Singapore badminton association for pay hike ?srini wrote: ↑Mon Dec 20, 2021 12:53 am Mulyo handoyo and Tan kim her are set to return coaching Indian team. If true this can be great news for Indian badminton. Mulyo not only helped Srikanth pocket the most number of titles in a calendar year in 2017 but is also instrumental in shaping the Singaporean Loh kean yew as the world champion in the just finished tournament. Tan has been instrumental in making Satwik/Shetty realize their full potential.Coaches like Mulyo who are fitness freaks can help the senior players like Srikanth,Sindhu extend thier careers and can guide the youngsters like Lakshya immensely in tactics. Hopefully this will be longer stint with both of them extending up to Paris'24 and put Indian badminton firmly on world stage.
Malaysian Tan Kim Her appointed Indian badminton's doubles coach
That is good news for Indian doubles which is looking up now.

Re: Indian Badminton Thread ...
Thanks..both singles and double coach seem to have started their coaching career with Indian team and building their resume. Not sure why badminton association couldn't rope in a proven coach with existing coaching resume.

Re: Indian Badminton Thread ...
We have the Indonesia Masters going on, a Super 500 event. We have a decent Indian contingent there though Sindhu and SatChi are not there. In important results so far, Srikanth again had a disappointing 1st round loss and Sai Praneet got knocked out in the qualification. However, Saina won her 1st round match in 3 games and Lakshya Sen beat a tricky opponent Kodai Naraoka. Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto are also in the 2nd round after beating another Indian pair. I hope Saina has something in the tank for the next match as she faces a Chinese. More Indian matches coming up.

That's a good upset win against Kodai by Lakshya. KN is #7 whereas LS is #12. And, their lifetime record is 3-2 Kodai even after this win. KN was the finalist at the Malayasian Open. Good on him. Hope he improves more and goes deep.
