Thanks Jay and atithee. I am around and reading but not posting as much.

Hopefully will get into regular posting as the 2024 Olympics starts coming closer - we need to run our sports-india medal projections again.

We can probably do it post Asiad when things will be a lot clearer.

Btw, Sudirman cup mixed team event starts from tomorrow in China finally. We are in group with Malaysia, Chinese Taipei and Australia with top 2 teams going thru to QF. We will have to beat at least one of Malaysia and Chinese Taipei.

We play a key match against Chinese Taipei tomorrow. Maybe we can start a thread if we win tomorrow as that would mean almost confirmed QF place.

Disappointing 1-4 loss against Chinese Taipei in our first match at Sudirman cup.

The only win came in womens doubles where 17th ranked Tresa-Gayatri beat 24th ranked Taiwanese pair 21-17 in third game after losing the first game.

In terms of rankings, the only other negative result was 5th ranked Satwik-Chirag losing 18-21 in third game against an unranked Taiwanese pair.

3 other matches - 2 singles and mixed doubles we were underdogs. But, 2 of those matches went very close. In fact in mixed doubles, 317th ranked pair of Sai Pratheek and Tanisha Crasto had a match point in second game against 30th ranked Taiwanese pair. They missed it and then lost the third game 6-21.

Sindhu also fought all the way against 3rd ranked Tai but lost 17-21 in third game.

Prannoy lost in straight games against 5th ranked Chou.

It could so easily have been our win if couple of those close matches had gone our way.

This time even more disappointing 0-5 loss against Malaysia. As per the ranking, we were expected to lose 1-4 but Sindhu also lost her 20-22 against lower ranked Jin Wei Goh.

That is the end of our stint at Sudirman cup this year.

Prannoy finally bags a BWF title (Super 500) Malaysia Masters by defeating Weng from China 21-19 13-21 21-18. A deserving title finally for a worthy fighter.

He is 30. He really fought hard. The other guy looked younger and fitter. But Prannoy held his nerves on critical points. He played badly in the second game. No fight. But came back stronger in the third.

Just for information Tai is retiring after this season so she won't be there for the Olympics and 1 spot should open up. However, India doesn't have a 2nd WS player who can finish in top 16. We should hope 2 qualify in MS. SatChi are a certainty and Treesa and Gayathri should get through even if they are not in the top 16.

What is funny is across 5 disciplines there are only 3 non-Asian in top 10. Michelle Li is also of Asian origin.

That's because it is mostly an Asian sport. In the US, badminton and table tennis are seen backyard recreational sports.

Among non-Asian countries, it is reasonably popular in Denmark.

It does not make the top 10 sport in either England or Germany even though they host badminton tournaments.

^^^ I think plenty of people do. It is fine if you don't -- nobody really cares about whether you care or not. :D
