Thomas cup starting on Feb 16th( India in same group as south korea) . it would be tough for india to make it to finals in may.

Five teams make to finals with top teams from each group (second best team will play each other for the fifth spot)

Interesting observation as to Singapore not fielding naturalised citizens? PKB any feedback on that?

Kumar, Singapore has naturalised citizens in virtually all sports -- especially Table Tennis, Badminton and Soccer. Singapore's Badminton star, Susilo, is from Indonesia, and most of the Table Tennis team (which did well in the Commonwealth Games) is from China. In cricket, they've recently recruited a former India Under-19 spinner called P Dharmichand (who is actually very good, but was not able to break into the Karnataka side because of alleged politics that favoured Brijesh Patel's son Udit).

I have seen Dharmichand and he is a very good player.

Recently there was a page 1 story in Deccan Herald and follow up in Express on the alleged favours to Udit who made to the Karnataka Ranji team and they said in disgust Dharmi quit the state scene.

The Indian women fought gallantly against second seeds Japan but went down 2-3 in a Group A league encounter at the Uber Cup Asian Zone (preliminaries) badminton tournament at Kuala Lumpur today.

In the men's Thomas Cup league match India thrashed rank-outsiders Macau 5-0 to secure at least the second spot in Group A

As mentioned by Kathir in the previous post, India narrowly lost to Japan.

Aparna Popat (world #24) def. Miho Tanaka (#14) 11-8, 7-11, 11-2
Kaori Mori (#16)def. B R Meenakshi 11-9, 11-4
Trupti Murgunde beat Yu Hirayama 4-11, 11-4, 13-10

Shizuka Yamamoto and Seiko Yamada (#10) def. Jwala Gutta and Shruti Kurien 15-7, 15-3
Keiko Yoshitomi and Kumiko Ogura beat Fatima Nazneen and Manjusha Kanwar 15-4, 15-3

Indian girls had earlier defeated Macau 5-0, and will play Hong Kong and Malaysia. The top two teams from this group will move into the semifinals, and top three teams from this tournament will play in the Uber Cup finals in Indonesia in May.

The indian girls have to beat now both Hong Kong and Malaysia to keep the semifinal hope alive. But, it's going to be a uphill task and Malaysians won against the fancied HK in opening round.

Hey great!!! India upset Hong Kong 4-1 :bounce:

The Indians now have two wins from three encounters and will take on hosts Malaysia in the final league encounter to decide the second team to qualify for the semi finals from Group A. Japan won all three matches so far.
wrote:The Indians were given a flying start by Popat, who has not lost a single match so far, thrashing Wan Ting Ling 11-3, 11-6.

The experienced B R Meenakshi then crushed Ng Ka-Shuu 11-1, 11-5 in just within 25 minutes to increase the lead to 2-0.

The result was confirmed beyond doubt when Trupti Murgunde stepped on to the court to send Yip Pui-Yin packing 11-9, 11-2 in 32 minutes.

But the 'dead rubber' syndrome seemed to catch up with the Indians in the first doubles as the pair of Shruti Kurien and Jwala Gutta surrendered to Koon Wai Chee and Li Wing Mui 6-15, 12-15.

Former national champion Manjusha Kanwar then ensured that the Indians signed off in style as she teamed up with Fatima Nazneen to beat Wan Ting Ling and Mau Cheng Wang 15-5, 15-10 and complete the scoreline
Jay...lookslike this syndrome here tooo!!! :)

Go girls!!! take out Malaysia and make it to the semifinal. Two more to go...to crab the Uber cup spot.

Kathir: Actually the tennis people have no dead rubber syndrome. Our players routines go out to play and win dead-rubber matches in Davis Cup .. Leander has set the example over the years and they never seem to take it lightly ..

But great win by Popat and Co .. Getting closer to semifinal .. Go India!

Jay..I agree, also I am referring the way it was written like;

thrashing
crashed
stepped on to the court to send..packing
surrendered to
signed off in style..to beat, etc.
