Tough luck for Ritwik, but good to see that he fought hard. Sourav Ghoshal, the under-19 champ, also appears to be a very good prospect. (His parents happen to live in the same building as my parents, so I'll try to get some inside info on him the next time I visit Calcuttta!).

Thanks Kathir for posting the results of the final match between Mark Heather and Mike Corren. I was searching for the result but was unable to find it. The Chennai Open web site was useless.

Men's World Open Championship 2003
The Men’s World Open Championship will take place at Lahore, Pakistan from 14 – 21 Dec ’03. The qualifying draw matches started yesterday and the lone entry from India is Riwik Bhattacharya. Perhaps, he is the only one eligible with the current world ranking of 83.
Here is the first qualifying round result for him.
Ritwik BhattaCharya (Ind) bt Shahnawaz (Pak) 15-11, 13-15, 15-13, 15-7 (56m)
However, there is another Indian name in the qualifying draw;
Raj Nanda (Aus) bt Zubiar Ali Khan (Pak) 15-13, 15-11, 15-8 (24m)
Nice to see both of them beat the Pak players

Men’s World Open Championship:
The draw size is 64 and the direct entry closes at (??) world ranking. Can’t find out the entry close rankings. It’s a bit of surprise that Ritwik is not a direct entry
There are 8 qualifying slots and Ritwik is one among the 31 (one 1st round bye) in the qualifiers draw vying for a qualifying slot.

Alister Walker of England is the lowest ranked player (#70) to make the main draw, I believe. Raj Nanda (Australia) is ranked 82 and Ritwik is 83.Can’t find out the entry close rankings. It’s a bit of surprise that Ritwik is not a direct entry -Kathir

Yeah Pakistan is a big squash powerhouse. It's not just the Khans, they have almost a squash player factory there, similar to the Russian tennis player factory
