Geet Sethi and Pankaj Advani lost in the pre-quarter and quarters respectively in the Senior National Billiards tournament.

Devendra Joshi, who upset them will take on young Baskar in the semis. The other semis will pit Shandilya against Alok kumar.

It is nice to see that top players like Geet Sethi and Devendra Joshi not making
it to the finals. Maybe, our second rung is building up? Is that true David?

Alok beat Bhaskar 929-707 to retain the Billiards title.

Pankaj will begin his defence of the Senior national snooker title from today.

IMHO, Competition at home has always been tough and I think the second rung players are doing well, but only in patches. We need consistent display. But joshi, who beat Geet and pankaj is already an established player.

Pankaj lost to Alok Kumar.

Grand double for Alok, a feat only Geet achieved in 1988 (?)

Alok Kumar has entered the semis of SMB Asian 9-ball Tour. He beat Bustmante 9-8 in the second round  :notworthy: . He beat with the same score some other player (can't remember his name ) in the quarters

Billiards & Snooker (World Billiards Championship, India

We have tremendous depth of talent in billiards. But my theory is that our success in billiards (where we are probably pre-eminent in the world) has blinded us to the chances in snooker -- which is much the bigger sport internationally.
As a teenager, Geet Sethi was much more dominant (and better) at snooker, but he too succumbed to the local lure of billiards over time. I wish someone will break the jinx and focus on snooker ahead of billiards. Perhaps Pankaj Advani?

Hey Jaydeep, thanks for covering this - are you watching these matches?
Billiards is such a fun game - less fun to watch than snookers but lot more tactical!
