Big dreams for Indian golf

Post by ajay »

Some comments by Jyoti Randhawa on Indian golf and current Indian players as he leaves for Worlf Golf Championship next week. He is quite upbeat about the Indian golf scene.

Big dreams for Indian golf
Randhawa is also full of praise for senior compatriot Jeev Milkha Singh, who has toppled him as the highest ranked Indian golfer. “I am happy for him. He was one of those we followed. He deserves to be there, because he has played the best golf among all the Indians this year.”
The 34-year-old golfer also said that Jeev’s winning of China Open has boasted his confidence, “Since winning the China Open this year, he is a different player altogether. He has grown in confidence and playing well.”
With Jeev all set to finish on top of the Asian Tour Order of Merit list, Randhawa wishes him all the best. “I have won it in 2002, (Arjun) Atwal won it in 2003 and now Jeev. Indian golf never had it so good.”
On Arjun Atwal’s poor season so far, Randhawa explained that it is not easy to maintain the tempo, “After a wonderful time last year, things did not go well for him this time. But one has to consider that USPGA Tour is the toughest place to be. Playing their week in and week out with players like Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and others, it is very tough to maintain your game. What you think great may not be good enough to make a cut there. I think he will come out of it.”

Jyoti intends to play more in EUROPE....
Highlights of his interview.

With an aim to improve his game further, Jyoti Randhawa is following a special programme to enhance his mental toughness and counter the pressure on the high-intensity European golf tour.

"I want to play more on the European Tour where you face stiff competition which makes you a better player," he said, adding he wanted to improve his ranking which would help him take part in bigger tournaments.

Randhawa nominated Chowrasia as the next big thing in Indian golf. "He is a great player. The best thing in him is his attitude. He is a cool guy. Besides, he has an all-round game.

Congratulations for Jyoti to become first time Dad. Jyoti has been off the international scene for a while because of the birth of his first child. Although Jyoti played golf two weeks back in AIS tournament at Delhi Golf club where he was in incredible form as he shot a course record of 22 under par. Hopefully, he brings the same form European/Asian tour whenever he returns.

Last week Jyoti finished 2nd in Spain in the European tour. That would be his best finish in Europe mainland as previously he has finished 2nd in the jointly sanctioned events in Asia. The 2nd position alo took him to career best 74. He has been #1 Indian golfer for a long time and he must be trying to gain back that status from Jeev. This week he plays in Italy and a top 10 position will surely take him to another personal best.

Jyoti is sitting and waiting for the call up anytime during the day today.
No luck so far as there have been NO wothdrawals....
Though not wishing bad for anyone, someone has to sustain an injury in warming up/practice.
Else, Jyoti has no chance. Surpised to see him as 2nd alternate after Tom Pernice.
Tom got in after Olazabal withdrawal.
Jyoti did not do well in qualies and his World ranking is not good either.
So it must be due to his high standing in the European Order of Merit.....
Good luck Jyoti....if you get in

After winning Indian Open third time Jyoti commented about his future plans and in that he mentioned that now he feels he is ready to play on USPGA tour.
"I guess I'm ready for the US PGA," Randhawa told Reuters after his win. "It is just a matter of time, whenever I do it."

"It is just luck, timing, I'll be there," he said. "I'm just going to focus on playing in Europe and my world ranking will get me to the US Tour."

Jyoti finishes T6 that will once again move his ranking to a new high. But Jyoti must be diappointed as he is aming to get into top 50 and therefore he was looking for a big jump.

Needs a win to make a real move.
He is playing very steady golf and is long due for a European event WIN.
Hope its not far away as as near as Korea.....
