Jyoti Randhawa - US Open

Post by ajay »

After a high of last week Jyoti could not bring his magic back. With a score of (71,72,73,72), Jyoti finished on par and tied for 32nd spot.
Next week Jyoti moves to European tour at Dunhill Links Championship, a place where he finished 6th in a world class field. Last year his good form started from this tournament which he maintained till the end of the year to win Asian Order of Merit. Repeating that performance will be too much to ask for. Lets watch how he fares this year.

Jyoti has moved up to 176th in the world this week. :D

For comparison sake, here is the rankings of some famous golfers:

173 Mark O"Meara
181 David Duval
192 Jesper Parnevik
194 Greg Norman

These rankings are based on a system that favors the US PGA Tour performances. Mark, David and Jesper play the PGA Tour week after week and still Jyoti is ahead of them. Jyoti is ready for the US PGA Tour in 2004 and I hope he plays in the qualifying tournament and makes it.

Jyoti Randhawa along with Jeev are once again teeing of on JPGA tour event BRIDGESTONE OPEN. Jyoti has already secured his JPGA card for next year, but Jeev has to improve his position on moneylist to secure his card.

Juoti had a steady start as he shot 2 under par (70). He had 4 birdies and two bogies in his round. He started on back nine and got birdies on 12th and 15th hole. On front nine he missed a birdy on one of the easiest 2nd hole (most of the people got birdies there), but he immediately scored another birdy on the following 3rd hole. But this birdy was followed by two consecutive bogies on 4th and 5th hole and from -3 he dropped to -1. On the last hole of the day (9th) he again scored a birdy to finish at -2.

He is T32 on the leaderboard, while the two joint leaders are at -7

Jyoti had a super 2nd round when he posted 8 birdies and a lone bogey.
Yeh!!!! :D :D
With this performance he moves up the leaderboard at T5 position (-9) , 3 behind the leader (-12).
Incidentaly, in the tournament that Jyoti won recently, he was 3 shots away from the leader after 2nd day.
Are we going to see the repeat??

Way to go Jyoti! Make us proud again!!

:( :( A disappointing day.
What a contrast from yesterday. Today he had 6 bogies and a sole birdy. While yesterday he had the best card of the day (-7), today he had the worst card of the day. Jyoti dropped from T5 to T49.

What happened to Jyoti? I have never seen him loosing his advantage from a good position like this. It is a surprise to me. I guess we'll never know what happened.

Jyoti Randhawa finally finished at T55 spot. Last day he had a 2 over par card with 4 bogies and two birdies.

For the tournament, he was -2 (70, 65, 77, 74).

He is again registered gor JPGA this week. I wonder if he is giving a miss to PGA qualifier (1st stage), or (I wish) if he is alredy exempted to second stage qulifier.

ABC CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF

Jyoti Randhawa finished his first day with a decent card of 70 (-2). He started his day with a birdie on the first hole, but he was in trouble soon with bogies on 4th and 6th hole. He birdied the 7th hole but and immediately again bogied the 8th. He played much better in the back nine as he got birdies on 11th 14th and 18th hole.

He is T19 for now in a field of 90. I'll update his final position later.

Update: Final position on Day 1 is T21

Jyoti continued with ups and on the second day. He had a disastrous start with a bogey and a double bogey on first two holes, that wiped up all the gains of Day 1. After that he played a steady golf and recovered well to make the cut for the weekend. By the time he finished front nine, with birdies on 4th, 6th and 8th hole he was back on par for the day. On the back nine, he bogied the 14th hole but recovered again two post two more birdies at 15th and 18th hole. With 71 (-1) for the day he is (-4) for the tournament and currently T26. If he becomes hot, still he can casily reach top 5. Over to the weekend.
By the way, this course looks tough as the cut was at 2 over par.

Come on Jyoti, you already have one victory and show the Japnese once again the power of Indian golf!! :)

Jyoti Randhawa is having an ordinary tournament. Although he is getting lot of birdies, but count of bogies is also too high. On third day he had a better round of -2, with 5 birdies and 3 bogies. He is now placed T36 with a total of -3 (with 13 birdies, 8 bogies and a double bogey).

Jyoti Randhawa clicked today as he posted a card of 68 (-4). Today he cut down on bogies as he had only one bogey against 5 birdies. With Jeev dropping on the leaderboard, Jyoti climbed up to catch up with Jeev to finish T22.

Jyoti Randhawa - US Open

Jyoti Randhawa seems to be happy playing in JPGA tour as he is giving a miss to PGA qualifer and returning to JPGA tour this week. Surprisingly, Jyoti seems not to care about EPGA and PGA tour. In few tournaments that he played on EPGA tour, Jyoti earned enough money this year (as well as last year) that could have given him EPGA card, but he kind of let it go by not paying a small EPGA membership fee. He wants to earn these cards in a grand style, by winning a tournament in limited opportunities.

By the way I've been noticing that Arjun Atwal and Jyoti are hitting a high in golf alternatively. Arjun won an EPGA event last year followed by Jyoti winning Order of Merit in APGA. Arjun again won an EPGA event this year, Jyoti answered it by winning a JPGA event, now Arjun beat Jyoti in APGA event, so now it is Jyoti's turn to do something big.
Go Jyoti!

It appears that Arjun Atwal and Jyoti are pushing each other to achieve excellence! Ajay, do you know why Jyoti stays away from US PGA and EPGA? There is a lot of money to be made in Japan PGA but I think he is capable of qualifying into the US PGA. The 125 ranked golfer on the US PGA Tour made nearly half a million US dollars!
