In Malaysia G1, among boys only 2 are thru to PQF- top seed Manas Dhamne and third seed Yuvan Nandal. Second seeded Aman Dahiya and sixth seed Aryan Shah lost to Koreans in second round. Rushil, Rethin and Kriish also lost in second round.

Among girls top seed Shruti thru to third round.

^^^ Quite disappointing. Unfortunately, Rushil retired injured in the third set against a below top-200 player. The listless 06 16 loss by Kriish was what was really sad. I expected a little better. Rethin also. His 26 26 scoreline to a 132-ranked Italian player was disappointing. Aman has been a lost cause lately and is way over-ranked, so his early loss was expected. Again, ranking is all quite suspect right now in the juniors.

It is 2 or 3 fewer than I expected in the final 16s. But I had only expected Manas, Yuval and maybe Rushil to reach QF on the boys' side and only Shruti on the girls' side though. Hopefully the three will win their PQFs and do that.

Both Manas and Shruti lost their PQF. Yuvan won in straight sets and thru to QF.

Disappointing losses particularly for Manas who lost 06 26 to 259th ranked Thai boy. Maybe lot of matches over last 3 weeks including national games took it's toll. That is the only think I can think of.

Manas and Aryan Shah are thru to doubles SF though and will earn some points to move up the ranking thru that.

Yuvan Nandal lost in the singles QF and Manas/Aryan and Shruti lost in their respective doubles SF''s.

So, overall disappointing show here after the high of Asian juniors at home. Only redeeming thing for our juniors here is they will still gain somewhat in rankings.

Yuvan will move upto around 88-90. He still has 100 points to defend this year but in even worst case if he does not gain anything more this year, he will lose 64 points ( 100 - 36 which are currently not in his top 6 points) and will be around his current ranking of 106 which means ranking between 55-60 at the start of next year. He is almost assured of Australian open main draw. Couple of decent tournaments will seal that for him.

With 24 singles and around 25 doubles points gained, Manas will move up to around 70 and he will be at least between 35-40 at the start of the year with no points to defend this year . He is already assured of AO main draw.

Aryan will move a few spots to around 115 and with no points to defend this year, at worst he will start next year around 60 in rankings which too should be good enough for AO main draw.

Shruti should move a couple of spots from her current ranking of 49. She still has 270 singles points and some doubles points to defend. He worst ranking will be around 85-90 which means around 55-60 at start of the year too.

Very good chance that all of these 4 will directly make AO juniors main draw.

Unfortunately, this does not augur well at all for any high level tournaments including the Australian Open. I’m very weary about junior accolades of Indian sports.

At least one Indian has justified his ranking and seeding so far this week. 16 year old Aryan Shah is the top seed and has just won the semifinal at the Sarawak J3. He has had some good wins and easy scorelines. Faces a third seeded Swiss guy in the final. Hope he will win it tomorrow and move near top-90 in ranking.

Aryan Shah (IND,122) won the J3 in Sarawak with a clinical 64 64 win over the 18 year old third seed Adrin Casanova (SUI,151)... On a quick check, it looks like the points from this should be enough to move Aryan into the top-100, somewhere near #90... He is looking quite impressive at age 16.

Aryan Shah goes this coming week to the J2 in Nonthaburi, Thailand, where he will be the 3rd seed. Shruti Alhawat also will be there, as the top seed on the girls' side. Rushil Khosla will be at the J3 in Kuala Lumpur as the the top seed. Manas Dhamne will be back in Spain at the J1 in Sanxenxo, where he should be the 7th or 8th seed.

Quite impressive performance. He was the top seed alright but we have seen that our juniors are generally over ranked with points earned mainly from tournaments in India. But, here Aryan not only justified his ranking but won all his matches except the second round in straight sets.

Yes, he will be close top 90. Will be at least top 50 at the start of next year ( with no points to defend for rest of the year) and confirmed AO main draw. So, among boys we have Manas and Aryan confirmed to be in main draw of AO juniors and Yuvan almost there. Maybe Rushil can get into qualifying draw. But, good to see at least some talent coming up on junior side after few years of drought.

I am suddenly upbeat on Aryan Shah. I was checking the Sarawak results regularly, and expected him to lose to the Chinese guy Tianhui Zhang in the semis, because that guy has been on a tear, upsetting people all around. Under-ranked at 201, as he started playing only recently... but he had won three J4 and two J5 events without even dropping a set (and had taken out the 6th seed Aman Dahia, 61 64 at the Cairo J1 recently). He had only lost 6 matches out of 50 in the juniors and that too only in tight 3-sets. He usually beats everybody in straight sets, and he had won the doubles at Sarwak this week as well... That was till he faced Aryan, who coolly dismissed him in the semis for a 60 62 score, which literally dropped my jaws!!

Even Aryan's final against Manas at the Asian juniors was a very close affair. He seems to be legitimately a top-75 type player now (and top-30 or higher next year)

If I were PKB, I would start a thread for Aryan, but I am not PKB :)

Thank you for acknowledging this. I’ve always been very wary of juniors’ ranking all over but more so of Indians in all sports. I hope Aryan proves an exception. Good luck.

Aryan Shaw (third seed with an R1 bye) has reached the QF with two easy straight set wins at the J2 in Nonthaburi, including a 63 61 win today over the 16th seed Zachary Viiala (AUS). 15th seed Daksh Prasad won a round but lost to the 4th seed Ayush Bhat (USA,145)

Shruti Alhawat (top seed with an R1 bye) has also reached the QF in Nonthaburi with two straight sets wins, including a 75 75 win over the 16th seed Eleejah Inisan (FRA).

Top seed Rushil Khosla is in the PQFs at the J3 in Kuala Lumpur.

Shruti lost in the QF against the 6th seeded Australian player but Aryan has won his QF against another Australian player in straight sets 63 63.

Aryan is now on a 8 match winning streak and has not dropped a set in his last 7 matches.

^^^ Yeah, it is the scorelines of Aryan's matches that is impressing me. He is really on a roll, like he should be higher-ranked, even while we feel that Indian kids are over-ranked in the juniors due to poorer foreign participation in Indian events.

Shruti was struggling a little bit in the previous matches at Nonthaburi too. Not sure what is bothering her there. Lily Fairclough that she lost to, had lost to LakshmiPrabha in the R1 at the Pune JB1, while Shruti had beaten the better Lily (Taylor, seeded 2nd at Nonthaburi) in easy straight sets in the final there. So clearly a much different game from Shruti in Thailand.

Meanwhile, Rushil has reached the QF at the Kuala Lumpur J3.

And another 62 64 win for Aryan over Thai 7th seed (who had upset Australian top seed in the QF) in the SF here to move to the final. Now, Aryan has won 8 matches without dropping a set ( in fact none of the sets have even gone to 7-5 or something like this).

Aryan will meet the same Swiss player Andrin Casanova whom he beat in last week's J3 final.

^^^ Andrin Casanova got him in the final this time. A totally surprising scoreline too. Aryan went down 16 16 just now :(
