Adi lost and Krisha won.

Rohan lost too. He practiced with Adi these past couple of days. Been having a string of first round losses but he’s been playing well. Just needs to convert close games. Rohan’s doubles partner got defaulted from singles and from the tournament. So that’s that for us. We might stick around for the J100 next week. Needs some wins :)

Btw, our good friend Bobby Mahal is the tournament director this week. Met him a few times before and always a great time chatting up Indian tennis with him. He was with Bops at Indian Wells and some of you might know that he coached and mentored Sumit during his years in Canada. This is the same club where Bianca and Shapo trained during their formative years and Bobby was also instrumental in their success.

Yeah, I was noticing Rohan's matches. Close but he has had a string of losses. I am sure he will break out of it. (And thanks for your PM with some info on the age issues in Indian tennis).

Indian names seem to be having a tough time in Toronto. 2nd seed Adithya Ganesan and also Abhishek Thorat, Kaetan Mehta etc lost, so no Indian names in the final 16. Anya Murthy, Maya Iyengar, Maya Dutta and Meera Jesudason won on the girls's side

Bobby Mahal has always looked like a good coach, to me...

For the record, Krisha's score over a higher ranked Emma Dong (CAN,267) was 63 64... Nice win. She faces third seed Anya Murthy next. Aditya went down 46 67(7) to Dylan Long (USA,1675)

The Canadians are really good on indoor hard surface. Most American kids don’t play indoors much. The ones who play indoors in the winter (including us in the north east) play in a bubble, which is very different than playing inside a structure. Not making excuses for American kids but one of the kids that lost today said this was the first time he played a tennis tournament indoors :)

^^^ Good point on indoors play. I don't know if the California and Florida kids have ever even seen indoor courts!

Krisha Mahendran (IND,290) played a decent match against the 3rd seed Anya Murthy (USA,74) but lost 67(5) 36 in the PQF at the Woodbridge J200... I believe Anya is a year older. Both are from California. Anya from up north in Fremont, and Krisha from down here in the LA area.

Anya should make French. She has good sporting genes :) Her mom was a track and field athlete in India and her dad ran too. I was chatting with her yesterday and she said both of them ran multiple marathons including the tough Marine Corps one in DC.

4th seed Aditya Govila (IND,246) and 3rd seed Rohan Belday (USA,219) advanced to the second round of the J100 (grade 3) in Burlington, Canada, with easy straight set wins over lower ranked Canadians. Other Indian Americans like Abhishek Thorat, Shrikeshav Murugesan, Maya Iyengar etc have also advanced.

Aditya Govila and Rohan Belday have both made the QFs at th Burlington J100 in Canada. Also, another Indian-American, Abhishek Thorat. Aditya faces the 6th seed and Rohan faces the 8th seed in the QFs. On the girls' side, Indian-American Maya Iyengar and possible Indian-American Meera Jesudason made the QF.

Jesudason’s parents are Sri Lankan, I believe. I’ve seen Meera’s brother at a few tournaments and spoke to her mom last year. Alan plays tennis at Drexel and Meera will be playing at Georgia Tech.

^^^ Yeah, I had posted earlier that she could be SriLankan or Malaysian-American,seeing the spelling of Jesudason. In India, we would write Jesudasan (and will say that it is the correct spelling, though the SriLankan spelling is more correct, phonetically :) )... GeorgiaTech gets a good player.

Gautam was right. These Canadians are tough in Canada. Aditya lost the QF to the 6th seeded Canadian 26 67, Rohan lost to the 8th seeded Canadian 16 57 and Abhishek lost to the 2nd seeded Canadian 46 26, so three Canadians are in the SF... :( 3rd seed Maya was upset by an American, but unseeded Meera upset the 2nd seeded American. Rohan and Abhishek are in the doubles semis.

Rohan had a tough time finishing his volleys. He set himself up well in the point most of the time but couldn’t finish. Something he needs to keep working on. He was serving 5-4 (40-30) but lost the point and lost the deuce game and then the set. Connor is beatable and doesn’t really play like the other Canadians. Has a slow spinny serve, lobs a lot and doesn’t give much rhythm. Rohan has to figure out a way to win these kind of matches. I thought he should have sliced more. Oh well.

Still alive in doubles. That was a crazy match. Down 4-6, 2-5, 0-30 and somehow managed to win :)

There’s a J100 Quebec next week and we might come back after another week of training.

She is Indo-Latvian (/Russian) background and is Dubai based and representing India. Lot of talent coming up amongst the NRI kids these days.

Marion Bartoli, Wimbledon Singles Champion, on the young girl:

Thanks, Abish for alerting us on this kid ( you are posting very little these days, you should post more) and thanks Vishnu for giving more details on this girl. She has reached QF this week in Turkey beating 5th seed and 12th seed. Looks like another talent to keep an eye on.

Pallavi’s opponent (Khomitskaya) in that video is scary good. What power and placement. She may be another future star even though not Indian.
