Great job by 4th seed Yuvan at the J300 Asia-Oceania juniors. He is in the final.

He beat 11th seed Hugh Winter (AUS,155) 62 75 yesterday, and upset the top seed Charkie Camus (AUS,37) in the SF today, 67(2) 76(5) 61. In the final, he faces the seemingly super-talented 15 year old Amir Omarkhanov (KAZ,200) who upset the 3rd seeded Aussie #41 Hayden Jones by a 61 60 score.

Here is Yuvan's SF match full video from the Korea Tennis Association Youtube channel:

Nice run by Yuvan. Hope he wins the title. I think those who end top 10 in juniors do get some higher grants and higher exempt spots for pros. Have to check.

Got so engrossed in Asian games that have not posted in these tennis threads at all for 2 weeks.

I had a quick check, but as some of his last year points fell off, Yuvan had fallen to #61 and he will only move up to around #40 with this run. He was also in the doubles semis and lost a close match in an STB, so it is +150+(60/4) = +165 from 906 points now. With a title, he may move up about 5 more spots and go above his current career high of #38. But there is one more Asian juniors J300 coming up in Nonthaburi that is sorta his home court, so he may be trying to make a final run to see if he can get closer to #20 or even #15. Top-10 is almost impossible without a deep J500 or a grand slam run.

Yuvan lost 36 26 in the in the final 15 year old Kazak in the final.

This week he was in the entry list in main draw of J500 in Osaka,Japan but seems to have pulled out at the last moment. Maybe some niggle after last week.

Krish Tyagi and Aditya Govila are in the boys singles main draw and Krisha Mahendran is the girls draw.

Losing to a 15 year old isn’t a great omen for transition out of juniors. Hope it was an off day for him. We need players like him to take over the mantle.

Maaya Rajeswaran (top seed), Tejasvi Dabas (2nd) Rishitha Reddy Basireddy (5th), Smit Nileshbhai Patel (5th), Fateh Singh (6th), Vatsal Manikandan (7th), and a couple of others are at the J60 in Seremban, Malaysia, this week. All of them except Vatsal have reached the QFs as expected.

[Tejasvi, listed at 15 years of age still, is at least 3 years older, as we are told by one of our sports-india members who is often in the know :) ... EDIT: Maybe only a year or so older, as I am told later]

Aditya Govila (IND,175) is the 5th seed at the J200 in Nagoya, Japan, and has reached the QF there after a first round bye and two wins. Kriish Tyagi (IND,207) was also there as the 7th seed but went down to a 12th seeded Slovakian in the PQF. Adi beat his close friend Rohan Belday (USA,223) in a three-setter today to get to the QF. He goes up against a very tough top seed Jangjun Kim (KOR,41) in the QF though. Another Indian-American, Adithya Ganesan, is also there as the 3rd seed and has reached the QF. No Indians in the girls' draw.

At the Nagoya (Japan) J200 QF, fifth seeded Aditya Govila (IND,175) could not do much against the top seed Jangjun Kim (KOR,41) in a 16 46 match... The 6th seeded doubles pair, Kriish Tyagi and Stephane Pierre-Jo Kamendje (CAN) have reached the SF after a bye and 2 straight sets wins.

At the Seremban (Malaysia) J60, top seed Maaya had a 62 60 win over the 12th seeded SriLankan. In the SFs, she faces a 4th seeded Korean who beat the 6th seed Rishita in a 3-setter. Mayaa is on a 13 match win streak at the J60 level. Second seed Tejasvi Dabas beat a 7th seeded Sri Lankan and meets an 11th seeded Indonesian in the other SF. On the boys' side, 5th seed Smit Patel went down to the top seeded Malaysian but 6th seeded Fateh Singh beat a 16th seeded Denmark guy to make the SF. In the doubles final there, Mayaa and Rishitha, the 2nd seeds, take on Tejasvi and Rioko Umekuni (JPN), the top seeds. Fateh is in a boy's doubles SF there too.

At the Seremban (Malaysia) J60, the top seed Maaya Rajeshwaran (IND,481) beat 4th seeded Min Young Choi (KOR,891) 62 61 and 2nd seed Tejasvi Dabas (IND,561) beat 11th seeded Joanne Lynn Hartono (INA,1491), 61 63... So it is an all-Indian final there on the girls' side. Tejasvi and her Japanese partner Rioko Umeuni (seeded #1) beat Maaya and Roshitha (#2 seeds) in the doubles final 64 67(6) [10-7] ... In the boys' draw, 17 yr old 6th seed Fateh Singh fell in the SF fell to 4th seed Darrshan Suresh of Malaysia in straight sets.

Kriish and his Canadian partner went down in the doubles SF at the Nagoya J200.

Maaya Rajeshwaran won the J60 title in Malaysia beating Tejasvi Dabas 62 62 in the final. Maaya did not drop more than 4 games in any of the 5 matches she won this week. Again clear indication that 14 year old Maaya is one of our best prospects to come out in some time and should move up to higher level of juniors soon.

Maaya is on a 15 match win streak, with three titles, all in J60 events. She will now move up to around 380, and will be among the top 13 or so juniors in the world born in 2009 (14 year olds).

This group of players in Malaysia will continue with another J60 now, at Perak. I assume this will be the last J60 that Maaya will be playing, as she will make J100 and J200 events without trouble from now on.

Maaya Rajeswaran (IND,367) is in another final, at the J60 in Perak, Malaysia. Now it is a 19 match win streak with 4 more straight sets wins this week. She was the 2nd seed and faces the top seed Yu Kikawa (JPN,359) today... 4th seed Tejasvi Dabas (IND,452) lost the SF against Kikawa, 67(3) 67(4).. 8th seed Vatsal Manikandan had upset the 4th seed Aril Kayra Tuna 76 75 to make the semi, but lost badly to the 2nd seed Jaden Dewandaka Tan (INA,426) today, 60 61...

Maaya and Rishitha who were runner up in doubles last week, won the doubles title today over the Yu Kikawa and Rioko Umekuni. The latter was Tejasvi's partner in winning the doubles title last week.

An Indian-American is having a terrific run in the J60s on the other wise of the world too. Ronit Karki, who is only 15, is on a 12 match win streak, having won the 6-round Santa Domingo (DOM) J60 two weeks ago, and winning the really tough six-round J60 in Atlanta, USA. He beat the 2nd seed this week and also last week's US J60 runner-up, both Americans who are a couple of years older. The kid has dropped only 2 sets in 12 matches too. Seems like a talent to keep an eye on, among those of Indian origin around the world!

14 year Maaya Rajeswaran's winning streak grows to 20 wins with a 63 63 win against Japanese top seed in the final of J60 in Perak, Malaysia.

With those points and extra points from doubles, Maaya will now make it to inside top 300 in ITF juniors rankings. She will be among top 10 girls born in 2009 in world.

I think she would/should move on to higher level tournaments now.

Excellent stuff from Maaya. She has been totally dominant at this level. Would like to see how he does at the J200 and higher levels now.
